I don't know if this still works (I did it in W95 preview), but I had the same
problem and I fixed it by booting to a DOS 6.2 floppy and then switching over
to the hard disk and running NASCAR setup.

Hope that helps,

This is my second post here with this problem.  I just got a new computer
with Win95 preinstalled and all hardware already configured.  I installed
Nascar within Win95 and ran automatic setup.  It came back with the same
settings that control panel has.  I tested both sound types and I heard
sound.  Now when I exit from Windows to C: and run nascar it locks up
after reading sound info.  I ran setup from c: and ran auto and it said
that it couldn't configure, so I manually did it with the right settings.
I tested the midi first and no sound, then I tested SB 16 and it locked up.
What the hell should I do?  It runs great if I choose no sound card, but
then I have no sound and no joystick control.

There are several possible solutions to this problem.

1> When setting up a DOS-based program, you should always boot the
computer to MS-DOS mode by either chosing that option from the
shut-down menu, or by pressing the F8 key when you see the message
"Starting Windows 95"  this will give a menu with one of the options
being to boot to the command Prompt.  By doing this you give the
computer full access to all of the resources.

2> For running ANY DOS-based programs in Win95 I *highly* recommend
going to the Explorer (right click on the Start menu) and then "drag"
the icon onto the desktop which will create a short-cut to the
program.  Right-click on the short-cut and choose "Properties" and
select the "Program" tab and set it to use MS-DOS mode and then click
on "Advanced."  From there select the option to use a new
configuration and copy and paste from your old config.sys to load any
and all memory managers and CD-ROM/Sound Card/Mouse drivers that are
necessary, and then you are set to go.

3> Some programs will actually run in a Windows 95 window on the
desktop, but you really need alot of memory and a fast computer to
really take advantage of this.

If anyone else has any more Windows 95 questions, just email me and
I'll try to help.

This happened to me when I didn't have the CD in the CD-ROM. If your not
using CD-ROM, I bet it wasn't fully installed. Also, running from Win95
and not in DOS works. Why are running in DOS?

I just want all of you to know that the problem is fixed.  For some odd reason
I had to install the DOS ICU (plug n play) to configure all of the real time
devices needed to be used when running DOS based apps.  Thanks for everyones
help.  BTW I am running in dos because 1.  I save resources for extra umph in
detail.  2.  When I double click on the nascar.exe in Explorer it tells me to
shut down all apps and goto dos.

I've just told mine to not go to DOS by changing the properties tab when
you right click on the icon for nascar. Works fine for me (P90 w 16MB,
Logitech SoundMan Wave, and Altec Lansing Speakers :) )

I have similar problems with Win 95... I sometimes get no sound for
games when using 95...My solution is to NOT load win 95 up if you want
to play a game. Then everything works fine....
