Is it just me, or is the Voodoo 3 quite hard work?

I mean - there have been loads of queries about it.
Maybe its just the complexity of Open GL, D3D and Glide
all being present at the same time.

Maybe I'm thick, but my V3 2000 AGP was awkward to install too.
For example, they have winzip'ed the drivers, even though
its on a 600Mb CD, and Winzip seems to fail.
To cut a long story short, the "quick install" wasn't.

All in all, the Righteous 3D voodoo 1 went in much easier.
(It came out pretty easy too!  :-)

The Eidos demos disk was a poor compared to the Orchid's
collection of 3 full games too. I mean - couldn't I have downloaded
that lot if I'd wanted them?

That's odd. I don't remener my Voodoo3-2000 PCI having
drivers in a zip file. I simply inserted the CD and away I went,
if I remember correctly.

Me too, my V3 3000 couldn't have been any easier install!

Isn't that something that is included in the V3 cd?  I "think" I remember
reading
that the readme or manual states to run the program BEFORE installing the
new card.  2nd hand knowledge however, take with a handful of salt.

I believe there are issues when moving from earlier voodoos to v3 -
something to do with conflicting drivers or something.  I did hear there was
a full v1 uninstall utility for use pre-v3 installation, but I can't
remember where - sorry.
My v3k went in hitch free.

I think part of the cost saving between the 2000 and 3000 was the bundle.
The 3000 comes with 3 full titles.

Mark and others,

Thanks for your comments.

It seems I am pretty much unique in my difficulties.

The problem was that the CD didn't autorun for me - not sure
why - and the book's advice in these situations is to run
"setup.exe" which starts up a winzip utility, then crashes
and suggests you restart the PC. So I think the book must
be wrong.

Anyway - It works now. Thanks, the card seems fine
in other departments.
