GPL Sound problem

I just got done installing GPL on my machine again. Problem is the sound is
all hosed, when car runs through the gears, the sound of RPM increase seems
to procede in steps. Also the sound is terrible, nothing like it was on the
old machine. Any input would be appreciated, below are details of my system.

Epox 8K7A+
512megs PC2100DDR
AMD 1.6Ghz 233FSB
Soundblaster Live Value
Geforce2MX400
Hard drive thats spins real fast
Windows XP
ECCI Controller

Have you cranked up the number of sounds to the max in GPL's options?  I
think it will go to 16 (maybe higher, can't remember without looking).

make sure you have the cpu patch installed, as well as any other patches like d3d, etc....also make
sure you have the updated drivers for your Live! card

Tom...

Make sure if you have "onboard" sound on your mobo....that it is properly
disabled.  Then, if that's not it......make sure your drivers for the SB
Live Value are for WinXP....not Win98se.  Do you have sound problems with
other games?

Sound works fine with all other games, I have all the patches for GPL
loaded, will try the SBlive drivers and see what happens.

GPL Sound problem

I had a problem with a SoundBlaster Live card and GPL running under Windows
XP - crackling sound and pauses or stutters in the game even when I was
getting 36 fps. Getting the latest SoundBlaster drivers cured the crackling
but not the pauses. The only thing that fixed that was going into the Sounds
and Audio Devices control panel and turning Hardware Acceleration (under
Advanced | Performance) all the way down. Problem solved! GPL is as smooth
as a baby's bottom again. Others report they achieved smoothness after
turning Hardware Acceleration down a notch or two - I had to go all the way
off.

Seems Windows XP has exposed a deep rooted bug in the Live drivers that
affects some games coded for non-current versions of DirectX (EAW flight sim
had same problem; cured same way).

GPL Sound problem

Tom, all the drivers for the sondblaster live card on XP have their problems
with GPL ranging from distorted sound, CTDs', and crackling. Also the
'stepping' problem can be caused by IRQ sharing (this can vary between
mobos - the worst mobo I had for this was an Abit).

I have an Intel board with onboard sound which is surprisingly good and
works really well with GPL so I've disabled the SB adapter.

I think Creative can't be bothered with downward compatiblity of their
drivers for older games on XP.

I can't be bothered to reinstall  Windows ME but this was much more stable
than XP. And if you're running a Geforce then have you sorted the problems
with refresh rates?

The XP problems continue....

Thanx for the tip Dan ... ive had a long standing prob with my sblive and
gpl. The wierd thing is if i put hardware accel to zero my sound is messed
up. It seems to work fine on normal(1 from the left) its the first time if
had an online race with no sound probs at all. I think the way is to test
all the settings and choose the one that works best for you . :)
