Ideal settings for GPL and Momo

by Zen » Fri, 02 Aug 2002 07:29:05

Hi,

I just purchased Momo, yesterday,  and I did the first thing to do, i.e.
reload GPL and patches, abandoned after loosing access to the crappy V-Tech
FF wheel that does not work with anything above Win98.

Time have changes. Have FF settings also changed? Does any Momo user out
there care to share settings?

I run Athlon 1600+, GeForce4, 128mg, etc.

Cheers!

I've given up on the force feedback in GPL.  I've tried every possible
latency setting and nothing seems to feel right.  I'm always faster with FF
disabled than with it enabled.  I think Papy need to go back to the drawing
board as far as FF is concerned.  They're still using these obscure settings
such as latency, damping etc. in N2002.  In ISI stuff like F12002, FIAGTV3
mod etc. you simply enable FF, adjust the strength and it feels incredibly
realistic.

Yeah, and I think ISI needs to go back to the drawing board with the
analog controller configs.  In GPL and N4/2002 you calibrate the
controller in-game (even using the direct input driver) and just set
the slider to "full-linear" and it feels incredibly realistic.

Hey Zen try this as I was a new MOMO user 3 weeks ago and did a lot of
research on the web re setting for FF in GPL and between all the info
i used these settings as a start and now really like them

Here we go, grab the latest Wingman profile softwear version 4.20
there is a link installed with the MOMO wheel softwear.

Right set up a profile for GPL in the Wingman profiler and set the
Steering Wheel Axis properties to 25% low
which will make the wheel less twitchy in GPL. Also set the Brake
peddel to the same but leave the Throttle at 100%.

Ok close that and open up your game controllers under your OS and pick
the MOMO wheel then the settings option on the page that shows the
wheel, now first off make sure Combined Axis is unticked (use this for
all sims as it gives you seprate Brake & Throttle).

Ok set Effects strength to 100%, Spring Effect to 100%, Damper Effect
to 0%.

Untick Enable Centering Spring in Force Feedback Games.

Right in your GPL folder find the Core.ini file and locate these lines
below and replace them with mine here

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[ Hack ]
steer_ratio = 1 ; Enable low speed ratio override

[ joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1          ; Use FF
force_feedback_damping = 5.000000 ; damping coefficient
force_feedback_latency = 0.020000 ; latency (secs)
max_steering_torque = 330.000000  ; torque = max force

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once you have done that go into GPL and you may need to recalibrate
your controller and reasigne the controls, then set the Slider all the
way to the left Linear and then set it back what you would consider 1
notch from the left. Thats it i tried heaps of settings did lots of
reading up on FF in GPL and have found these the best so far.

Also this may effect you as well, my Wheel is centerd off to the Right
a small bit with the 4.20 drivers, it was centered to the L with the
origonal drivers and its a promblem of the softwear not the wheel i
belived it was supposed to be fixed in the 4.20 wingman sofwear but it
just moved it off to the other side for me.

I have a profile set up in the Wingman software for GPL with these settings.

Brake Axis sensitivity turned down to 0
Throttle sensitivity set to 50
Steering axis set to 60%
Steering dead Zone set to 5

Then check out this website http://www.slottweak.com/gplintro.htm for help
on setting the ini values. Right now I'm still playing with them to get
exactly what I want. FF is pretty subjective, but his take on FF gives me
what I want out of FF.

Do you mean i have to set the sensitivity to 25% in the Wingman Profiler ?
Range is unaffected ?

Thx in advance

Ok I have a question, will those settings work with the formula force gp? I
tried and dont seem to get the "Road feel" that I get online, Also in my GPL
folder there are 2 files named this:core.ini.sample + server.ini.sample
should those be renamed I.E. remove Sample, Problem is I forget, I just
spendt all night reformating my HD, and reinstalled XP, but NTFS, instead of
fat32 format, and reinstalled GPL, did all the different upgrades + driver
updates!

Yeah, the term X-axis sensitivity is a little complex for some people...

Thats right set the sensitivity in the Wingman Profiler to what i put
in the post (this is a start pos and you should adjust to suit
yourself though) I didnt change any of the Range settings.

So far I havent played too much with the F1 2002 settings, but if
anyone has any ideas i would like to try them.
