Can anyone paste some hype settings here that leave offline driving as
competitively fair with AI?
I saw the driver configuration settings but I'm unsure what values have to
be changed. Thanks for any info! :-)

The default setting is IMO fair. What you're asking for is an UNFAIR
setting, so you easily can win your races.... <g>

Practice, man!

Interesting.  I've found I have to make the AI *FASTER* to have a
"competitively fair" race, and interpreted his comment as such. :)

Heck, you're right, the OP could mean that aswell! Well, get the BRM
then, I would say... <g>

You do realise your question is akin to "how much pepper should go in a
scrambled egg?", don't you?

Pardon my ignorance...I thought those values affected GPL's kamikaze AI only
and not online racing.
I've never even raced online yet!
Then could someone tell me if there is a way to slow the AI opponents down?
I mean, these guys have outstanding, unbelievable driving skills, not to
mention a setup that rivals modern day F1.
I try and keep up to them going into Riems corners and my foot is to the
floor with the ass end of the car out of the groove 10 degrees...and J.
Clark is pulling away from me all the while sticking to the road like a slot
car. I may not be the best driver in the world, but any setup for the
coventry and ferrari that I drive is no match for these seemingly
unrealistic default opponents.
And someone said they want to speed them up to be more competitive??? That's
gotta be BS.

You're right.

When I played GPL in 1998, it took me months to win a race, even on
the easiest level. However, I didn't finish last, most of the time I
was around the 10th place. I really had to work for it, and I was very
happy when I finally won.

The fast guys were indeed too fast for me during the first months, but
the slower guys were beatable. Working my way up in the field is still
one of the prettiest memories I've regarding simracing.

I also remember a certain mr Surtees. That *** really taugth me to
brake, especially before the Parabolica at Monza. Countless, the times
he rearended me. I'm still a bit nervous when I see a white car in my
mirrors.... <g>

However, if you still want to cut corners, and to slow the AI down,
you need AI Tweaker, written by Kari Ikonen. (Never understood why
_he_ needed it, the *** was fast as Hell). You can get it here:

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

You might need vbrun30.dll to use it.

Have fun!

Cheers!

The ideal setting for me is to set the file to "read only" so that they don't
hype and stay at the out-of-the-box settings.  Works pretty well for the
original tracks, but add on tracks are all over the place.

Ok, then I'd give two options.  If the OP wants to keep the AI slow, then make
the player.sts file read-only.  Then the AI won't improve as you do.  If you
want to speed up the AI, find the AI-Tweak program...
