NR2002 multiplayer question

by Pete » Sat, 28 Dec 2002 19:39:38

Is it just me or when multiplaying NR2002 on LAN, the client/joinee player
can only see about ten cars ahead no matter what settings in graphics
options?
The host player has no problem.

I could understand this on dialup TCP/IP but we are seeing it on 10Mbit LAN.
As i recall NASCAR 3 and even NASCAR 1 did this.

Any enlightenment appreciated.

Just a matter of setting the cars drawn ahead and behind and they will show.

unless im missing something obvious, ive tried that and it doesnt make a
difference.For instance,for a 29 car field,the host sets 31 cars ahead and 6
behind, which he can see(all the way to pace car),but still the joinee is
restricted to about 12 or 13 ahead(with large gap to pace car)

To conserve bandwidth, GPL limited the amount of visible cars.  I wouldn't
be suprised if N2k2 did the same thing.  Even on a Lan as opposed to a
dialup.

says...

The "drawn ahead" and "drawn behind" settings for cars are generally
only for offline racing, and will only affect online racing to the
point at which the number drawn ahead/behind does not exceed the max
drawn ahead/behind for online racing (8 or 10 cars or something like
that).

I have never experienced this, my drawn ahead and behind settings work both
offline and online as expected.
Perhaps if your bandwidth is limited it auto sets this.
There is a tweak for the INI file however that forces all cars in the replay
file, perhaps this impacts both.

Actually, it's been like that since Nascar Racing 2.  Perhaps even the
original on Hawaii, I can't remember.  You can only see about 10-12 cars
normally, depending on the core.ini of the server.

On a LAN you should either use IPX or edit your CORE.INI to disable the
net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip option.

By default this is enabled due to it taking up a lot more bandwidth on the
server, affecting your connection, as well as others.

What would be nice is if you could at least edit it so you could adjust how
many you could see ahead/behind, not just ALL or 16 cars total.

you are correct Eric.Dave put us on the right track. This option in core.ini

net_use_mdm_bandwidth_for_tcp_ip=0       ; Use modem bandwidthfor TCP/IP

(default =1)

gives all cars set in graphics. If i remember WinXP doesnt support IPX
Thanx to all replies
