NR2002 - Opponent Manager Question

by Marc Collin » Mon, 18 Feb 2002 06:16:05

I am not sure if this is the same as N4, but if you have more than 43
drivers in your roster, how does the sim. decide who to drop off the list
when you start a session?  Is it random or somehow attached to the ratings
(i.e., the lowest rated drivers are more likely to be the ones dropped)?

Thanks,

Marc

In N4 it was based only on the roster order, so drivers made the field
because of their car number or last name (depending on how you had the
roster sorted on the Opponent Manager screen).  However as explained in
the 'Computer Opponents Selection' section of the readme, this is no
longer the case in NR2002.  The drivers are now selected based on their
stats (with a slight random weighting thrown in to mix it up a bit).

Another great improvement!!...and that's the politest RTFM I have seen in a
long time :)

Thanks,

Marc

P.S., I guess I should go read the readme now...

Wow!  That is a feature I've been longing for since N1.  I'm glad you
guys chose to include it. =)

Is there a limit to the number of drivers that can be in a driver
roster?  I'll probably end up scouring the net to try and build a set
that's as big as possible now that I know it's possible to have more
than 42 AI drivers qualify during a championship season.

I've got 47 cars now, and it still only loads 42 of them in the race entry
list.

That's how it's supposed to work.  In N4 you would get the same set of
42 opponents each and every race (the first 42 cars in the roster to be
precise), but now in NR2002 if you exit out and re-enter the race you'll
get a different set of 42 opponents each time.

Don't people ever read the manual/readme file? It's all explained there.
You can have more than 42 car in your roster. The sim will take the top
42 cars based on their skill level + some level of randomness. So, in a
championship season, you might not get the same 42 cars from one race to
the other. What more would you want?

That is a GREAT improvement, but what I would like to see is 50 cars
running qualifying and only 43 making the field, *including* the
player controled car.

But that would have to be an option you can toggle.  Not many people would be
happy paying for a game that they can't race, because they didn't qualify...<g>

True, or they could just select a roster with only 43 cars.

Then they should also include a toggled option where you send lots and
lots of money to someone like me who will send you back a motor that will
blow on the 2nd lap.
ya gotta love Realism...
