Nascar: Opponent Fuel Question

by Robert Abernet » Fri, 15 Sep 1995 04:00:00

Is it possible to change the maximum amount of fuel for the opponent cars
from 22 gallons to 7 gallons?  If it is possible, how would I go about the
change?  I run 35% of full races and want to have more pit stops.  Is there
another way to increase the number of pit stops on a short race other than
reducing the maximum amount of fuel?  Any information would be appreciated.

                                                Thanks.

It is possible, the opponent fuel window is defined in track/track.txt
files in SPDWY line.  For example TALADEGA.TXT has "SPDWY 1 42 45", and
the computer drivers pit between laps 42 and 45.  To "shrink" the fuel
tank to 7 gallons in Talladega, the line should be changed to "SPDWY 1 13 15".

Hey, does anyone have a text file explaining all those numbers in
those text files for the tracks?

You can change the number of laps between pitstops for the AI by
opening the track file (ex: Atlanta.txt for Atlanta) and changing
the last two numbers on the SPDWY line.

For example, by default, Atlanta is set to:
        SPDWY 0 49 56

This means that the AI will go between 49 and 56 laps between
pit stops. If you'd like that a shorter time, then change
it to:
        SPDWY 0 30 35

This will force the AI to pit every 30 to 35 laps after the
last time they pit.

Note, this doesn't control whether they pit on yellow or not,
so it's possible for them to pit on lap 20 during a yellow,
and then not pit again until lap 50 to 55 (20 + 30 or 20 +35).
