Don't look to ME for a comparison.  I suck, remember? :-)
I think I had a 1:46 pb, but it's not consistent.  Consistent times are
probably 1:48-1:49.

We're going to have fun Sunday.  As usual, I'll race off
with the rest of them, but I'll wait for you once I lose
contact.

My best is better than yours, by a couple of seconds, but
my consistent laps are a little slower.  I'm happy when I
can get under 1:50.  That's 15 seconds off the pace!

I usually run in the mid 1:35's, but I can squeeze into the 34's if I push
it, but that runs the risk of throwing it at the scenery all too often ;)
With fuel for a 40% race I think I start running in the 1:38s and gradually
drop to the 36's.

I can't study a track as such, I just drive it until I get "into a rythym"
Sometimes I can just jump in the sim and get close to my best times quite
quickly, other days I look like I couldn't drive sheep <G>

I really wouldn't know what speeds I'm doing at any point on the track
except the start finish straight where I reach 192 ish MPH. If I look at the
speedo anywhere else I crash, without fail ;)

I run a P4 2.4 with GF4600. I'm usually getting about 50 to 80 fps. I think
I'm running most settings on high with a few on medium, none are set to
full.

I wouldn't really call myself fast but if there's any way I can help others
enjoy a sim, regardless of their current ability, I'm only too happy.
I tried a race on F1RST the other night and there were several drivers
running in the low 1:33's, on a no aids server. I only just managed to
squeeze into the high 1:34's.

just managed a 1m39.1xx in the McLaren, using Ian's setup. I watched
the replay he uploaded and it strikes me how he doesn't even use all
the available track in the "classical" sense one would in GPL. Maybe
that's the secret? He manages to juust lock up the inner front wheel
under braking for nearly all of the turns, nice job Ian! Right on the
limit there, it seems. I had to move brake bias forward a bit so as I
spun way too often under braking, even while braking in a straight
line.

Also, out of new won enthusiasm because of my new PB I tried F1RST2
again... another 4MB "client update" later, I find I had almost
forgotten how sucky this sim is online. Unplugged icons in spite of an
excellent DSL connection to the host, nearly all players on the server
"uncollidable", the return of the one second pauses when somebody
connects (yeah, I know about closed quali and so on), still useless,
and a shame for such a nice physics engine to be hampered by the worst
bit of online code simracing has come up with since GP3. 8-(

Bye for now,

Uwe

Hi Larry,

I too would think that better frame rates would help you along and
would improve reaction times to your steering input.

I run F1C on a 2400 XP+ on a geforce 4800, and get 60-70 fps with
track detail set to "full" in practise mode.

cheers,

uwe

Have you raced on Eldred's server?  I didn't notice any lag issues for the
Melbourne race we had recently.

I didn't have lag...but the guy in third did and I flew into 5th as we tried
to go around...didn't know that invulnerbility was part of the list of
things we could use either.

I decided to take a little time for practice at Malaysia.

So I ran your replay for inspiration.  And to be amazed
one more time.

Something didn't look right.  Parts of the lap looked
impossible.

    I timed the lap.

My system plays your 1:34 second lap in 54 seconds!  : )

My system plays it in 1:34, unless I watch it in forward scan mode when it
takes 54 seconds.
Check you press the play button on the replay screen not the fast forward
one ;)

I thought I did that. : )

Ok.  That's better.

Still, a very impressive replay.

Sorry, I thought the list was posted.
Invulnerability, traction control, auto-shift, clutch help, and pit lane help
are all currently allowed.  Invulnerability was added because we kept losing
too many cars to damage.

Ok, now I'm a bit concerned.  I have a rev. 1 board.  According to that site,
the fastest CPU a rev. 1 board can use is a Duron 950.  I have an Athlon 1.2
CPU.  The documentation I got at the time said that it could use the 1.2 just
fine.  Now the question is, if the CPU is too fast for the board, wouldn't it
just not work at all?  All diagnostics DO see the chip as the 1.2g that it is.
If it would use it but limit it to 950 speed, then that's likely why this
computer has such anemic performance...
Grrr....

That's wierd, honestly. It shouldn't work, but apparently it is, I don't
understand why. That could be the reason why its so slow...but even if you
get a mobo that supports your chip, its still going to be slow. How often
ago did you format? I personally decide to format about every 3 months now
to stay at the absolute fastest speed possible.
