F1RS hangs: Advice needed from experienced F1RS players

Hello,

Lately been spending a lot of time on Kali racing against some
excellent drivers.  So excellent, I'm having to test and tweak till
the car is perfect to keep up with these guys (and gals).

I enter time attack mode, then choose a track, (it doesn't matter
which, the problem occurs on all tracks). Load a setup and tweak. Go
out to the track, run a lap or two, quit back to the garage.  Make
minor adjustments.  Close up garage, go back to menu and click GO to
test some more.  At this point my computer freezes.  Locked up
completely.  Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't reboot.  Have to hit reset and
reboot.

This happens every time.

System: Dell PII 266Mhz, 80 Mb ram, Matrox Millenium 4Mb video card
with Monster 3dfx daughter card 4 Mb., Win95 auto-size swap file.

Any advice on solving this problem would be greatly appreciated, as
it's becoming a real hassle, a thorn in an otherwise excellent
simulation.

TIA,

Ben Sides

Hello,
I don't have such problems
So... I can't help you

You can find some of them at http://www.racesimcentral.net/./setup.page.htm

... But you could help me.

I would like to play F1RS over the net with Kali and I don't know how to use
it to make it work.

F1RS is not in the Kali *** list
I don't know how to search a server where you could find F1RS Players
Is it possible for you to send to me a step by step way of playing F1RS with
Kali ?

Thanks

Pascal

Hi Pascal,

I've raced with Guy on Kali, as a matter of fact he sent me a killer
setup for Spa, which I've tweaked for other tracks.

Assuming you've got the Kali software installed and registered, go to
the "Where to Race" server.  There you'll find participants in several
driving sims.  Most of the time there is a chat area called f1rs where
you can meet up with F1RS players.  At the Kali command line type
"/join #f1rs" without the quote marks.  From there the other
participants will guide you through the on-line racing process, it's
really easy once you get used to it.  Hope this helps!

I'm having trouble with the game locking up, but not in the same
circumstances. Mine locks up after a lap or so of driving. When it locks
up, try pressing alt+return to return to Windows. It won't solve your
problem unfortunately, but it may be quicker than rebooting...

Are you using patch v1.05? If not, then get it as it solves a lot of
people's problems.

I don't experience that problem, but I do occasionally lose a sound
channel (left or right) after loading several ghost cars.  I'm quite
sure that this is causing a problem on my system, since it hasn't
occured when not using time attack.

This is a long shot, but if you havn't tried changing the
Default=WAVX2 to Default=WAVPW, it might be worth a try, since WAVX2
did cause page faults on my system (only under Win95 and not with
NT4).  Also, the usual check to make sure that there is adequate swap
file space available for virtual memory.  Again this is not probably a
cause if you don't have problems with GP or other racing modes.

Dave.

Sorry about the trouble you're having with time attack.  Mine only does it
about 50 or 60% of the time.  I'd guess it has something to do with the
sound because there is a pop from my speakers each time it happens.  I guess
we're just waiting for the next patch.

In any case, would you be so kind as to post the setup from Kali in the Game
Setup Window for those of us who are having difficulty getting the game to
run.

Thanks in advance.
