F1RS Multiplayer?

by Martin Fa » Mon, 16 Feb 1998 04:00:00

Just wondering what the multiplayer capabilities of F1RS are.  About 90
percent of my *** is head-to-head over the modem (or getting
computers together and networkin' em up) so this is a big deciding
factor if I'm going to buy it. The Ubisoft site says split-screen
multiplayer which sounds a little arcade-ish.  What's the story?

The game support up to 8 players using IPX protocol, so you can also use it
with the use of Kali to play over the internet. Via Kali the maximum
players is 5 players. And through a local network, it's working fine. There
is no modem play option, but you can set it up using one computer as a
dialup server using
IPX protocol, and the other person dial in the network using IPX, and
voila.

Bye Coco

IPX network support plus you can connect two systems via a null modem.

we play f1rs multiplay all the time

it is fast and easy to setup and have tried 4 players max so far

but:::

the collision detection sucks
there is NO qualifing (!)
there is no way to choose where players start on the grid
there is no save
there is no pause
the collision detection REALLY sucks
and the games get horribly out of sync , so much so that one player thinks he
is a few seconds behind you but in actual fact he is 40-50 seconds down...

a bit of work needed here...

Agreed

A major downer for serious multiplayer racing :(

Not in itself a praticular proble, but when combined with the previous
one... :(

Neither are in anyway appropriate for multiplayer!

REALLy agreed <g>

Or even worse, you both think you're ahead of the other guy ;-)

But despite all that, it's still the best F1 sim for multiplayer.

Pity it's so damn frustrating over the 'net though. I could stomach the
other problems but wasting an hour just trying to get both drivers to the
grid is too annoying :((

Richard

hehe
tell that to my mate when the hot food arrives after 22 laps at melborne and
then the phone starts to ring :)

***..
seen that as well

sounds bad
all our games have been over an ipx network
and we still have a lot of problems

the damn thing is that despite the fact that the multiplayer code is
pantz, it still produces some breathtaking, breakneck speeds 4
player multiplayer races...

common ubisoft....

Ok, then 'not appropriate for races over the 'net'. Difficult to get
those pizza delivery boys co-ordinated across the Atlantic <g>

So far all mine have been via Kali where the biggest problem is simply
getting all the guys to the grid. I'll be doing some IPX races in a
couple of weeks so I'll get to see just what it's like in the environment
in which it *should* work then.

You should try a 20 car race at Watkins Glen, Bristol or Dega with NROS.
Believe me, 4 players seems very tame in comparison <g>

Cheers,
Richard
