(is it piracy when you wouldn't have bought the game anyway because you have
no money, or just lay-by?)

Erm, that analogy is so unbelievably flawed I don't know where to start.

Please, think before you post.

It isn't flawed at all.  Some people are smart enough that stealing a car is
about as much work as it is for you to steal software, so what's the
difference?

Now***off out of here because we actually want sim. developers to design
more sims.  They can only do that if people buy them.  It's a pretty simple
concept, actually.

Duh. I guess the owner of the car would kind of miss the car when it
is gone. Nobody is going to miss anything if you download a pirated
game off the net. If you just made a perfect copy of the car, and
drove that away, leaving the original car untouched. Then there
woudn't be a difference. I haven't seen anyone do that yet, though.

Agreed. But one should realize that a lot of the anti-piracy claims
are bullshit. If a kid grab a pirated copy of a game he wouldn't have
bought anyway, noone lost money. The only difference may be that
someone made a buck on some cd-disks.

It is when you get factories making thousands of pirated cd's that
gets sold instead of the original cds (Like in Hong Kong) money starts
to get lost. It's great for us consumers though, for some reason
original games here are half the price of what they cost in
eg. Norway.

Yes you are correct you are absolutely right, now if you were to take it as
it was meant and not analize the analagy you would have found what a few
others figured out too, stealing is stealing period no if's, and's & but's
about it, well if I just ...... NO!

Don't be naive.  Of course someone lost money.  They lost a sale, and
that is money.  The fact that they didn't have the money yet is
irrelevant.  Don't you know anything about how business works?
Developing a product requires the expenditure of money.  Companies only
spend that money if they think they can make it back in sales.  In fact,
most development money is ultimately borrowed from someone else, so it
is money that the company is going to have to pay to someone else,
regardless of whether the product sells or not.  When someone takes away
a sale, he is taking away the money that company could have regained on
its investment.  The pirate is in effect stealing the money that the
company invested in the development of the product.  That's why it is
killing the industry.  Companies go out of business when they can't
recoup their investment in a product.  I have seen it happen.
