Any advice?

I currently have a Cel 450 192mb Mem and Creative Banshee VC.

I get 33/36 fps dropping to 18 with full grids at start.  Most of the time
good fps.

Looking at changing video card. What should i get in view of the rest of PC.
Only have PCI for video.

Also is Geforce D3D.

Thanks in advance.

Yes Geforce runs D3D. I would say tour best bet would be a Geforce MX card.
Just watch what speed the ram is. Alot of the cheaper cards are running slow
ram on them to get the price down.

I just upgraded from a cel400 to a cel II 633 and it made a huge difference in
GPL. Vid card is a V3 2000. I tried overclocking the video card with the 400 and
it made no difference in GPL as the cpu was holding things up.  If your mobo
will take it, a cel II cpu should give you more bang per buck than upgrading the
video card, (although not sure how a Banshee compares to a V3 2000).

my 2 cents

Sell your entire system and build a duron800 or tbird1ghz + 128mb pc133 +
kyro2 or gf-gts for something like $350US.  Your framerates will triple in
most games and gpl will be an entirely new experience.  I'll bet you have
none of the cool graphics addons installed now, they make a big difference.
Putting a pci videocard into an old system is a waste.

Not sure what game you are referring to but keep in mind that most racing
sims are slowed by the cpu, not the video card so you probably won't see a
hugh improvement.  You might be better off to think of a processor upgrade
before VC upgrade.

I'm extremely happy with my V3 2000. They and also the V3 3000 should sell quite
cheap now.
Compared with my friends Banshee, there are worlds in between.

Roger,

Was quite cheap and works fine.

In Andrews case the Banshee is really the bottleneck.
The Cel450 really can make use of a faster graphic card.

I know this question has been raised many times before so sorry beforehand.

I want to upgrade my video card.

My System:

PIII 600
256ram
voodoo3 3000

I play GPL and N4. I would like a newer card to get better frame in N4 but
not hurt the performance of GPL. Geforce 3 would be nice but to much money
and it sounds like there are a few issues with it. Geforce 2ulta sounds nice
but that seem a little pricey also. What would be a cheaper card that is
faster than my voodoo? Is it worth buying a V5 even though there is no
support for it?

Thanks,

Chris G.

Voodoo1/2/3?

Not really, unless you want to upgrade again in six months. Get an
Asus V7700 (Geforce2 32mb). Use Nvidia reference drivers with it. I
use 11.01 with no problems in the two games you mention above. You
will have to run GPL in D3D mode (need patch), which has higher res
mirrors than glide mode anyway.

Chris,
I don't think you will get much more performance from a faster video card. The
P3 600 should fit nicely to the V3 3000 and will be the bottleneck after
upgrading.

Only my opinion

 I have a P3 550 with a V3 3000 agp and I have to play N4 in 640 by 480
because when there is an accident it becomes  slow. It is playable in 800 by
600 too but when there is a crash the game begin unplayable ( too slow )
until the accident is resolved. I have in mind to buy a Radeon 64 meg to
have a better frame rate.     What do you think?     If the problem is not
the video card, what processor should be ok to run this game in 800 by 600
without problem?

                                                                      Thanks
Guill

I don't think you will get much more performance from a faster video card.

If you're who I *think* you are, stop playing GPL for a while.  After about 4
months, then start again, but only play on an old 200mhz or below system, using
a rendition card.
You're much too fast now - you need to sloooow down...<g>

Well, I haven't been in races with those guys.  I *have* been in a race at Spa
with Chris, and it was humiliating...<g>
