Turing test for race sims ... GPL fails?

by Thomas A. Leitge » Wed, 26 May 1999 04:00:00

Driving my 50 kW SEAT Ibiza CLX, I had this 'strange' idea, and now I am
just curious...

Turing (at least I think his name was Turing) 'invented' a test test to
determine the 'intelligence' of a computer software. Chatting with a
computer and a human, the computer could be called an AI, if you are not
able to determine which one is the human...

Turing test for race sims: if racing on-line with PC- and NPC-cars, you
can call them AI-cars, if you cannot distinguish between player
controlled cars, and non-player-controlled ones.
I am not good enough to make that test (I think you must be at the same
level, as non tweaked NPC-cars in order to do it) ... but would like to
hear comments ...

Basicly all racing sims fail. GPL, Viper Racing and SCGT do have much better

AI than anything that has preceded them. And of course when it comes to
on-line racing the AI is better than most humans!!!! ; )
