F1 2002 Demo

by Larr » Tue, 04 Jun 2002 10:50:42

I just learned today that this was out, so I downloaded it.

First, I agree with the person that posted about the graphics.  They have
done a great job as far as performance is concerned.  I ran it at 1600X1024
32 bit with every option maxed out and it was running at full speed !  That
was in testing mode.  I haven't tested with a field of cars yet.

Question.  Where's the Force Feedback?  I see no option for this, and there
is no mention of it in the readme.  They can't _possibly_ be thinking about
repeating the same mistake that brought them many of a complaint with F1
2001, are they ?

No FF, no sale.

It may be because there is no FF, but the tire-to-track adhesion feels all
wrong, and it feels a little like the car is rotating on it's center axis.
I'm also detecting a bit of 'canning' in the spin responses.

Again, FF, if it's present in the release, may overcome most of this.

For EA, it's not a bad effort.  Certainly the best they've done to date.

Ff is in there. Just hit options/controls and then the joystick icon
farthest to the right. There you set up your ff. It's the best ff of any sim
I've ever tried.

Don't remember...

Go to google and search for F1 2002.  Just pick one from there.

Google can find _anything_.

I think that's where I got it.

This much I know.  It was NOT FilePlanet.  I HATE that damned place.

You've not tried FF in GPL then?

It was just a matter of time before GPL was topped in this and many other
departments - deal with it.

WHEN it is topped in ALL departments in the same sim, I'll be over the
moon! AND as soon as a sim with better FF comes along I be the first to
rave about it.

Meanwhile, to say the FF in F12002 is better than GPL is just what I
would expect the GPL haters in this community to say!

"Gerry Aitken" <

Geez Gerry you echo'd a statement I made several years ago.    Yes it
really will be something when GPL is toppled completely.  To date there are
sims that equal or better it in many areas, but none have the whole package.
As for the FF effects in F1 2001, I won't defend the process, but have you
tried the dx2 tweeks?
Haqsau found that combined with the dx2 tweek if you limit the axis
sensitivity to 50% AND run a wheel  steering ratio at 12 to 13 degrees, the
entire car performs wonderfully.

This is sooo true! It's a shame that many here will tout
any_old_pile_of_***in their pathetic quest to see papyrus sims knocked
off the number one spot.

Not yet.

Dave - Thanks for the tip!

No it can't, unfortunately.  I've been looking for a few things for YEARS.
1. Francine Zaslow's "Inspiration on Ivory"
2. The video "B.C. Rock"
3. A copy of an old Detroit Zoo commercial(the one with the talking animals).
Haven't found *any* of 'em, yet... :-(

No clue, but if you combine these, you might end up with

(Animated talking animals.)

Yeah, that's a lesser-known of my personalities...<g>

I've seen snippets of that before - pretty cool!  I like the wildcat(puma?)
