Don't forget the v1.2 GPL patch.  It resolves some graphics bugs and modest gameplay
issues.

Voodoo3, DX7, Drivers and so forth

Hi All,

Well I have finally gotten a new P111-550 with Voodoo3 2000.

Hopefully GPL will arrive in the mail today.

Anyway, can anyone point me towards a resource which provides info
about which Voodoo drivers to use and so forth.

How does DirectX relate to GPL, if at all?

I'm new to 3D cards so I'm a bit unsure. Do you have to try different
drivers with each 3D game to find a compromise to suit all the 3D games
you want to play?

FYI, I've installed the latest Voodoo3 drivers version 1.04.00.

I've noticed that when I play dvds the picture is not entirely perfect
and I'm wondering whether it's an issue with the voodoo card. The actual
picture is great but subtitles appear very edgy, not smooth.

Is there an easy way to figure all this out?

TIA

Nick

Good show! :)

Just stay current with the latest drivers from 3dfxgamers.com (not the
beta ones) and you shouldnt have a problem with ANY game.
Another great website to frequent is http://www.voodoo3.net/

Your good to go!

Hmm, maybe there is an edge smoothing option in the DVD software?
I have a DVDrom but i can seriously say ive only ever watched one
movie with it. (before I upgrading to the Voodoo3) :)

DirectX is a series of files that allows your hardware (sound, video,
joystick, etc.) to be recognized and used in the windows environment.
DirectX, along with specific hardware drivers, allow all these things to
work.  I'm not an expert, this is just a basic description.

The latest drivers are usually the best since they are usually an
improvement upon older drivers (faster, less bugs, and more stable).
However, some games may not work with the latest incarnation of a driver.
It's a ***shoot at times.  I can say the latest V3 drivers are great.
Everything I own runs fine.  Stick with the latest and be sure to install
DirectX 7.0a which is the latest directX.

Go to www.3dfx.com for drivers and other info.
