Switch to joystick, switch to wheel, back & forth, back & forth....

Switch to joystick, switch to wheel, back & forth, back & forth....

by Rick deOlazarr » Thu, 04 Jun 1998 04:00:00

I want to drive, I pull the plug on the joystick & plug in the wheel;
I want to fly, I yank the plug on the wheel & stick in the joystick
plug.
Life's no fun anymore; there's gotta be a better way.
How do I switch from pilot to driver without yanking & shoving
controller plugs into the back of the computer?  I'm going blind trying
to find the answer on the internet, & I know you people couldn't be
going through this same song and dance. How do I get around it?

I use the jlink, by quckshot. It works OK. Supports 1 midi device as well as
standard joysticks. The midi device being MS FF Pro.

There is a device that allows the use of 4 independant devices.  Simply
plug your wheel and joystick in, then switch between the two with a
simple little slide switch.
It's by Quickshot and works beautifully.

Two methods,

1. buy a joystick extension cable (one without the little screwholes),
and attach it, or dangle it near your joystick and wheel, saves
unscrewing and mucking around behind the computer.

2. Buy a joystick switch. I believe there are two main ones available
in the US, the Joyswitch (www.joyswitch.com), and the Quickshot J-Link
(which I found is also sold here in Australia). The J-Link supports up
to 4 joysticks, and you simply slide a switch to select which stick
you want. So you can leave it all plugged in. I have my wheel,
joystick, and gamepad all connected, and simply change the Win95
settings, and flick the switch and we're away.

Neither Joyswitch or CH product's version (name I can't remember) support a
midi device at this stage, so no MS FF I'm afraid. New versions are in the
pipeline though.

Bah, I can't afford 300bucks for a MS FF joystick anyway :-)
Maybe when they bring their wheel out....

Hey Rick,
Look for a device called "Joyswirch".
It's a box that you can hook up four controllers (joysticks, wheels &
pedals) and two foot controllers (RCS). they run about $50.and are worth
it.
