F1RS in Win98

F1RS in Win98

Has anyone managed to get F1RS working in Win98.

I have a Matrox Millenium II and a Orchid Righteous 3DfX.  I have the
drivers for both cards which came with Windows98.
I have Win98 effectively installed on a clean system.  Its installed using
the Upgrade CD with a clean disk installed with Win95 and then Win98
upgraded onto it.

When I came to install F1RS it didn't recognise my 3Dfx card and only gave
me the option of using the Direct3D installation.  So, I decided to install
the Direct3D version and get this up and running (and worry about the 3dFX
at a later date).  After installing it I rebooted and ran the program.
Then as it started I kept getting loads of DirectX errors and it wouldn't
run.
I have DirectX 5.0b installed, so any ideas, how do I get any version of the
game running??

You probably don't have Glide.dll and sst1init.dll in you windows
system directory. You can get them here:

Thanks.  I sent the query to Ubisoft and got a reply almost immediately
saying this was the problem.  I'll try it out tonight.  Well done Ubisoft on
some quick tech support response.  Thanks for the info Greg.
