NR2003 & key questions HELP?

by Sting3 » Sat, 31 Jan 2004 02:56:28

Here's the question, I have installed my copy of NR2003 on 2 machines...
one was while I was visiting my Brother in a different state.  OK, now Im
fairly adept at the innards of stuff, been racing and tweaking since NR2 and
I do pc support for a living...

So the TPTcc thing has him all e***d while I was up there around Xmas, so
after I left he finally got himself a vid card, and plays offline as per my
begging him not to go online with it because I would be blocked...  That was
TOTALLY fine BTW.  But now I wanna be able to race him Via "legit" means
through Sierra.  So my theory was to move mt 2.47 gig nr2003 install
(because I mess with PC stuff all the time) install the new version with the
new key, then copy my old version back into place, however I feel that I
still will get the "CD KEY IS ALREADY IN USE" right because when I copy back
"my origina key" is probably in a file in the NR2003 dir, is it not?   so
can anyone help me, I dont really wanna redo the whole install here, nor
have to call long distance to help with the buttloads of patches and well
actually all of the dayum tracks where you have to copy .dats & rename plus
make the folder....  again on his machine.  I know due to some utils that
there is a file in my machine (and his) that needs to have the new key
somehow...

Thanks.

PS since some will say this might be sensitive type of info for the board, I
can tell you to send an email if you wish to stingre(at} Yahooo[dot}com...
thanks  (yeah that is the way I spell -> stingre above)

the only way to play 'legitimately' would be to buy a second product.
I think it retails for less than $20 (usa)  This is the only way i know of
to get past the Sierra CD key conflict.
You 'could' avoid the Sierra copy protection and race via ip# and not
through the Sierra Servers.  That would mean one of you hosting and
the other joining via ip, or joing a racing group like OLR that does not
use the Sierra Servers.   There are several leagues that have their
own servers as well and you could both join using a no_cd.exe

My bet is the key is stored in the registry. I would think you'd be ok doing
what you suggested. At worst case after copying your original install you
could reinstall the new copy and after patching it copy back everything, but
the main folder. That would keep all your add-ons and player info.

Sounds like  you would just need to copy over the series folder and player
folder.   All should be oky dokey and you will have your setup, tracks, cars
etc...   Whatever you want without moving the whole main folder....

NR2003 stores stuff in the Registry...

Dave you missed my point.

I did buy the second CD, after installing it with the 1st cd on both
machines...  See what I hoped was I could do all the work of getting
everything on it, then when he got the CD he'd be ready to GO!  But as you
can guess, I thougth about it as I drove home with his new CD that was
shipped to me yesterday,  that dammit, how am I going to change the key
without redoing all that damn work...  the NR2003 dir on my machine is 2.57
gigs with cars, tracks and mods I have installed, same on his.
