GPL +XP +NVIDIA GeForce 4 TI 4200, no multiplayer mode.

by Mart » Thu, 09 Jan 2003 21:22:47

I updated my computer from a p3, 550mhz, 512mb ram with win98se to a
p4, 2,53ghz, 512mb ram with XP prof.
When I try to play in Multiplayer mode, the screen gets dark and a few
secons later GPL it is canceled and returns to my desktop.
I installed the 1.2.0.2, cpufix, d3d patch and addet the core.ini and
server.ini file in my GPL dir.
I use cable connection, so i also look for alternative IP-connection
in the core.ini file but it still wont work.
Can somebody help me?

make sure you have the ipx protocol installed - gpl doesn't seem to like
tcp-ip

Check if there is a  file named MULTI.LYT  in the ./GPL/LAYOUT/
folder.  If not, reapply the GPL 1.2 patch.

Are you using FSAA?  Nvidia FSAA and Vroc don't get along to well.   Turn
off the FSAA if you have it enabled.

Dave,

I've got FSAA enabled on my Visiontek Xtasy, and GPL looks and runs
better then ever.  Then again, I'm still running Win98se as my OS.

I am and everything is OK except for occasional font corruption in replays
etc.  Is the latest Open GL patch a better choice than D3D for a GF4Ti user?

user?

I use OpenGL on my 4200. The mirrors are slightly more blocky and the
overall picture quality is marginally worse than d3d imo, but the font
corruption went away so I've stuck with it for now.

Performance may be better too, but I get 36fps in both so it's hard to say
one way or the other.

There's a fix for the blockier mirrors - should be somewhere on the RSC
forums.  If not, let me know, and I'll put another copy up (I didn't create
it, but I do have it).

Do you mean the replacement mirror.mip? I have that, but I couldn't tell the
difference. For d3d, there are settings in the core.ini to double the
vertical & horizontal resolution, but not for OpenGL. There's a mirror patch
for 3dfx too.

I'll have a root around at racesimcentral, ta for the suggestion.

Yeah, I was talking about the mirror.mip - I know that I noticed how low-res
the mirrors were when I first switched to the new OpenGL rasterizer, and
adding the replacement mip really improved it.  Maybe it's been so long
since I've run D3D, I don't remember the mirrors being that much better?
