Besides setting Personal Stats options to yes in the options menu, what
else do I have to do to get it to work.  Yet, when I look at the individual
maps and check the stats section, nothing is ever kept.

The personal stats are for the simulation mode only. Your probably playing
on wild or arcade mode.
