Sorry for the off-topic post, but this group is very knowledgable, and
this question is geared particular to perfromance with racing sims.

I was at Best Buy today and a 19" monitor from ViewSonic caught my eye.
It's the A90f+ model and can be had for $229 after rebate.  It's got a
nice clear picture and a flat screen.

I had a 15" ViewSonic years ago, and was very happy with it.  I now have
a Mag 17" monitor which I've also been happy with, but it's starting to
show it's age.  (It keeps switching between modes until it's been
running for about 45 minutes.)

Ideally I'd like a 21" monitor, but don't think that I could find one to
fit into my limited desk space.  I was wondering if any of you are
familiar with the A90f+, or if there's another one that you'd recommend
instead.  BB has a 10% off sale thru tomorrow, so I can get another $28
off ($279 pre-rebate), if I hurry on this.

Thanks!

Paul

I had to go out and buy a new monitor a year ago when my Mag 17" monitor
went kaput. I was initially looking at the ViewSonics, though I was more
interested in their PF series, which is slightly better than the monitor
you're looking at (better resolutions and dot pitch). I did a lot of
reading on the internet and in magazines to compare monitors, and if I
remember correctly, most reviews parised the ViewSonics as being good
monitors, which includes the A90, though none rated them as excellent. I
settled on a Sony, which many revuewers rated as excellent, up there
with the best of them. However, for what you'd be paying for the
ViewSonic A90, that doesn't seem to be a bad deal. Best Buy probably has
the best prices of any retail store, though you might be able to find a
better price at pricewatch.com. Just watch out for shipping (sometimes
you can find someone who has a free shipping deal, like I did on my Sony).

I just got the A90f (non-plus) after dealing with the Envision En710e at
Fry's (had to take it back FIVE times before they gave me store credit and
let me get something else) and I love it...

That's about what I paid for mine, as well.  I'm not sure what the
difference is.  But the picture is VERY clear and the screen is nice and
flat.  It's really a great monitor.

Thanks for that info, Milhouse.  I don't know what the "plus" means either.

viewsonic have changed a little since then.  they only used to make
professional high quality monitors but now decided to make monitors of lower
quality to market the consumer outlet stores.  they still make the high end
stuff though, but don't expect the same high standards in their lower quality
monitors.  they're still good, but don't go just because of their name.
compare prices and quality with other monitors.

the A90f+ has a higher max res, but just barely, and comes in black and metal
only.  the A90f is beige only.

When I was shopping around for a new monitor about a year ago I looked
at the A90f. I wasnt too impressed with what I saw, but then again it
was one of about 8 monitors hooped  up to the same computer at Office
Depot. after looking around som more I settled for the NEC MultiSync FE
950+ (theres that + thing again). I wasn't sorry I paid a little extra
for it. Like they say sometime you get what you pay for.

Are these Viewsonics going to be *much* better than what I have now?  I'm
running a Compaq 17" monitor.  I'd *like* to upgrade to 19" or 21", but
finances are standing in the way of that...
