Hey guys. I have question about one of my monitors. It's about 7 years old
and the text is starting to get pretty blurry. I have tried different
drivers with it and it's still blurry. Am I looking at buying a new monitor?

Oh yea, It's an Acer monitor that has built in speakers and mic. Thanks.

When they start to lose focus, convergence, there is not much you can do, except replace them.  IMO
Acer monitors have never been considered anything but budget line anyway....

There's a focus setting inside the monitor which can be adjusted, but I
wouldn't recommend going in and adjusting it yourself... get help from a
savvy electronics hobbyist. He may not know exactly what to look for, but he
can prevent you from hurting yourself.

BTW: my Visa LRP8550 will celebrate 9 years come October (but needs and E-W
correction overhaul)

Two things to check:

Have you tried de-gaussing it?

Have you happened to place any AC/DC converters or similar close to the
tube, which may interfere with the monitor's operation?

I have an old 15" KTX Monitor that the kids use.
I was going to throw it out for the same reason, it was way out of focus
and hurt your eyes watching it. The picture was also very dark, even with
the brightness turned up full.
Then I noticed 2 little *** blanking plugs in the back of the Monitor.
I pulled them out, behind them both were 2 adjusting screws.
One of them allowed me to adjust the picture from out of focus to perfectly
clear. The other one brought the brightness back into range of the normal
brightness adjustment. The Monitor looked like new again.
I found that after a few months this needs to be done again, but it only
takes a minute anyway. The Kids are still using the same Monitor.
I have since adjusted the same controls on other Monitors but some of them
need you to take the back off them.
As Jan said, you need to be careful if you do this yourself.
There is a high Tension lead that can give you an Afro, even with the power
switched off. This lead attaches to the middle of the back of the picture
tube. You should be OK if you don't touch this lead.
If you do try it, and cop an Afro, can you email me a photo? :-)

Hope this helps

It will do more that give  you an Afro..
It will give you a big long dirt nap.

FWIW, every time you turn a monitor on, it does the degaussing thingy
:)

But there's most often a special button or menu option that does it much
more thoroughly, that should be used at least every time the magnetic
surroundings of the monitor changes.

Depends if you touch it with your tongue or not :-)
