GPL: 3dfx vs TNT

by Vitzthu » Fri, 02 Jul 1999 04:00:00

A quick question now that I have reinstalled GPL because the bug bit me again:
I have an AGP Riva TNT 16MB (standard drivers) and a Diamond Monster 3dII clocked at
95Mhz.

My Celeron 300a used to be stable at 374mhz, but since upgrading to Win98 will only
settle down at 338mhz.  Needless to say, it is now a little slower and when playing
with quite a few AI I can notice a slowdown even in 640x480.

So, my question is: is it worth the hassle to try and get the TNT to work in GPL?
Will I see a performance gain?  Should I go for the TNT beta drivers that support 3dfx
or d/l the Papy patch for GPL to work on TNT?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Gian Vitzthum.

ps. it was the availability of the Brands Hatch circuit that made me decide to
re-install GPL.  :)  Now if only 1.1 would be released....

Do these 'TNT beta drivers' mean Creative's Unified drivers? If so, then
the beta OpenGL patch is way better than Unified.
