"performed" better than the 3dfx. Well, I adjusted the gamma correction to 0.9
as someone suggested and that definitely cured the "washed out" look. The
framerates are still better "on my machine" with the Rendition than the 3dfx.
Here is what I came up with:
System:
P333 II (LX motherboard)
128mb Ram
21" Viewsonic G810
Thriller 8mb PCI Rendition V2200
Creative Labs 3D Blaster VooDoo2 3dfx 12mb
The "given" in all tests:
Track = Monaco
Mirrors = Cars
Trackside = All
Bias = Max (+)
Opponents = 19
Sound = 8
Test 1. 3dfx / 800x600 (90mhz)
Pits = 13/14/15 fps
Starting Line = 10 fps
Turns 3/4 in traffic = 22 fps
Maximum at rear of field = 28 fps
Test 2. 3dfx / 1024 x 768 (90 mhz)
Pits = 12/13 fps
Starting Line = 9 fps
Turns 3/4 in traffic = 21 fps
Maximum at rear of field = 25 fps
Test 3. Rendition / 800 x 600
Pits = 17 fps
Starting Line = 12 fps
Turns 3/4 in traffic = 36 fps
Maximum at rear of field = 36 fps
Test 4. Rendition / 1024 x 768
Pits = 17 fps
Starting Line = 11 fps
Turns 3/4 in traffic = 22 fps
Maximum at rear of field = 30 fps
*****************
SUMMARY: Obviously on my machine the Rendition 800x600 is the best with
1024x768 taking a heavy hit at start of race but then closing in on 30fps as
traffic thins out.
My fear (concern) will be how NASCAR 3/2000 will be with a 39 car field. One
thing I noticed is that the track surroundings chew up some noticeable frame
rate. Eye candy at Winston Cup tracks should be less draining.
Overall I am very pleased with my system's performance with GPL. If I could
just drive the darn thing better. Practice, practice, practice.
