Hi All,
I just received my Act-LAbs shifter from an E-Bay auction and I'm have
trouble getting GPL to recognize it. The best I can do is shift up of shift
down but not a direct gear selection ( ie. 1st to 3rd, or 4 th to 2nd), I
there a patch or something that I need. It says in the readme file that it
does support GPL. I got it recognized in N 2003 with no problem.
Also, what is the secret to changing the faceplates. The knob obviously has
to come off but I can't figure out how it comes off...I tried unscrewing it
but am afraid I'll snap something off.
I'm sure it's something obvious but this is the first time I've actually
seen one.

I've never been able to get the gear knob off mine either, but
apparently it just pulls off.

You need to get the ALShift.exe util off their webbie or the CD that
came with the shifter and leave it running in the background when you
start gpl. You will then be able to use either the paddles on your wheel
as usual or the shifter to direct-select.

You can also patch gpl with gplshift, but I haven't done this because I
prefer to be able to use either shifting method, gplshift will disable
your paddles by default.

Some titles support the shifter natively (NR2003, LFS etc) so with those
you don't need to use ALShift.

If you look at http://www.racesimcentral.net/;you'll see why
you need to pull straight up.
The first time I took it off I had the same feeling of breaking something
but it went fine.
You then, only have to remove the two small***to switch plates.

I changed the knob with the one from my car so it's easier to remove now to
change plate.

Using the Act-Labs Shifter Utility v2.2 from Act-Labs, GPL should work
automatically.

I've had mine for more than 3 years and I don't remember having to do
anything special for it to work.
