help! monster sound and directx 6 vxsound error

been trying to get directx6 only games running with my monster sound
card.  get the ol blue screen with vxsound error blah blah blah.   does
anyone have directx6 working with monster sound?  i have tried all the
newest drivers and such.  if it matters this is my setup  pentium pro
overclocked to 233- ensoniq sound card with monster sound for direct x.
first generation rendition 2d with a monster one 3d card.  thanks
