GPL Sound problem.

Guys,

I've looked up all the GPL sound problems, but can't seem to find anything
that fixes mine, maybe I'm missing something?

When I start the sim, the sound is OK to begin with, then after a short
while, usually on the first lap, the engine sound drops to a low grumble. I
think the other sounds are ok, but I can't quite remember.

I turned the hardware acceleration off in directx, but this gave me a
stepping in the engine noise when I revved. Anything above off caused the
problem again.

I have recently rebuilt my system from win98, to 98se, and in doing so I
lost the audio driver for my mobo, so had to download the latest one, so I'm
wondering if anyone knows of any issues with that?

Soltek SL-75KAV mobo, with Vinyl_AudioCodec_V550a driver.

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with your sound chip but the usual cure is to set
acceleration to 'basic' (one up from none). This is usually a Win2K/XP
problem though and I believe it's caused by IRQ sharing (which is near
impossible to change with ACPI).

I tried every available acceleration setting, but none cured it, other than
'none', but that gave me stepped sound.

However, the interrupt business you mentioned may be the cure. I also get
chopping in the windows startup sound, so I could have an interrupt
conflict. I'll have to have a play tonight...

Did you ever solve this(startup sound)?  If not, are you running a virus
checker program?  Try disabling it and see if it works.

No, and ooooh! Yes, I've got symantec antivirus running now...

Thanks. Nice to see you back!
