Video card question

Hi, I'm about to splurge for a video card for my rig and I'm confused about
a few  things....I currently have a Pll
233,64m,stb128 w/4m video card, and I'm thinking of swapping to a 8mb
thriller to get rendition and to try to improve the frame rate in
GPL...but...aren't I trading one video card for another, really, will this
improve my frame rate(currently 10-12 while racing)?I want rendition because
I play GPL and N2 mostly, and the thriller will give me that plus the
ability to add 3dfx if I need to later, ...but for now, will the Thriller
alone give my system enough ooomph to p/u the frame rate?

Yes, definitely.  Probably at least double your current fps.  And
look better, to boot.

In N2 yes, in GPL it will during single car training.  Running with more
than about 5 or so AI cars in a race your fps will likely be unacceptable.
That was my experience anyway with a P200MMX (oc'd to 225MHZ).  For GPL you
really need a PII 300 or better for full frame rate with a Rendition card.

as the other replies said, yes, get the thriller8. but to get full fps you'll
want close to 400mhz cpu. you can drop in an abit bh6 mobo and a celeron300a cpu
and overclock it to 450, then gpl will fly! cost under $300

Sounds great for GPL, but will this help or hinder other programs or games?

Scott, the Thriller card is kind of a dead-end for non-Papyrus
games... in other words, it won't do 3dfx.  Altho I gather it
will beat the Voodoo 2 somewhat in GPL.

Overclocking can be problematic, not really recommended if you're
not too experienced in beating computers into submission <g>.
