Matrox Millinium II * meg AGP

by RWF0 » Sun, 09 Nov 1997 04:00:00

I an considering the Millinium II 8meg AGP card in a new 266 P2 system.  Does
anyone have this card or know how good it is?  I understand it isn't a
rendition card, but am considering a dual card operation for rendition mode.
 i.e. N2.

Was also considering (but leaning more towards the above) a ATI All-In-Wonder
 video/tv card.  Thoughts on that:

Thanks

Xducer,
nice system, sounds like it will be a screamer. I realize that AGP is
the up and coming prodigal son. That said, I would stay away from the
first generation motherboards and AGP vid cards. With a slot 1 266
Pentium2 and one of the available (tried and true) Asus or Tyan boards
coming with lots o' slots, I'd wait a month or so for the Rendition 2200
vid cards. The 4meg 2200 includes TV out and of course also handles the
routine 2d duties. Then slam in one of the new Canopus Pure 3d 6meg 3dfx
cards alongside the R2200! Heck, who needs AGP! That way you are going
one step behind the bleeding edge and will be able to run almost any 3d
API. You also will not be getting early development parts and the
related problems. Believe me, I too am a classic early adopter and don't
mind fighting a few hardware battles because the rewards are so great.
That may be fine for you but my advice right now would be to stick with
PCI cards until AGP shake's itself out a little bit.
Well, there's my nickel, all the best, Mike Davis
