mysterious online GPL VROC Question - help!

I used to have no problem connecting to races, but now I'm getting teh error
message that says -

 "timed out communications channel"

What the hell does that mean??  I've running GPL 1.2 with a p3 600mhz and a
cable modem.
Any Ideas?
