F1 2002 Top speed at 307 ??

by » Thu, 13 Jun 2002 19:30:45

I tried everything but I can't get a higher topspeed above 307 kmh? Wings at
zero, gear ratio in different setups. And the ***ing car doesn't shift up
to the 7th gear.

I installed the latest drivers for my steeringwheel, Logitech Formula Force
GP, latest drivers for the USB port etc...

System is a 1800+ with 512 MB DDR....so that can't be the problem...Anyone
an idea why this happens?

I installed the CART mod last night and was upset that I could only hit
234 mph (about 376 kph) for a top speed at the Simbin Indyoval track.    I
should think an F1 car would pull at least 350kph so you are definately
having a problem.

To hit 234mph I had to bring the gearing setup slider back in.  At first
I had moved it all the way over to the speed setting and the engine didn't
have enough torque to pull 7th down the straights or 6th in the turns.   So
once I moved the gearing slider away from highest speed possible, the engine
was able to overcome the drag of the wings and body and run faster.    You
may need to do the same.  If the setup screen reports you can run 380kph,
then move the slider and save  the setup so that it reports something much
closer to to 350 to 355 kph.    Once you optimize 7th gear then other
effects like tire pressures can be tinkered with.   Oh and for testing
purposes...try without auto shifting, you may not be pulling enough revs in
6th for the engine management system to think it can shift UP to 7th.
good luck

F1 2002 Top speed at 307 ??

Hmmm, was just looking at my Motor Trend mag from this month this morning,
in the office, on the porcelan throne and I could have sworn that the 575M
Maranello that Ferrari is about to release was marked at 345 kph on the
speedo. I would think a real F1 car could do much better than that, albeit
the 575M has 508 bhp (V12) and will have the F1 *** package available.
Specs on that car sound & look sweet, it is the best looking ferrari IMO
(due to the long nosed, front engine/RWD concept that is Maranello) too bad
they aren't going to make but so many and of course the expected price with
all the goodies is supposed to be $252,000 USD. It even has the heralded
'launch control' on it...ahh but alas we were talking F1 sims... :)

There was a sneak peak of their F60. It looks like a streetable F1 racer, no
kidding.

What charming language. Did it occur to you to think that not all F1 cars
have 7 speed gearboxes?

Raise the rideheight/add packing so the underside of the car doesn't rub.

I think your cpu is too slow. I got a 2.4GHz P4 and reach 400km/h.

Just kidding, which car?, default setup?, you use automatic gears?
I have reachde 307km/h in the 6th geared Renault, but not with default
gearing.. in default the car goes quicker in 5th gear then 6th :)

Probably not since the 575m is fully enclosed and and F1 car has those big
ugly wheels exposed - which causes problems. There was an article in Race
and Track (I think) which talked about this and how half the aerodynamic
bits on an f1 car are there to steer the air flow around the wheels.

And besides which there is a difference in top speed and acceleration (+ve
and -ve). Personally I like acceleration :-)

I tried it all....strangely enough with default setup on a friends computer
the topspeed at canada is 320 in 7th gear...

But I will try it with XP on my own computer, maybe it's OS related, which I
can't imagine, but hey, I have to try something....

But I remember that I had the same problem with F1 2001, and never find an
solution...GP 3 and F1RC worked okay than....

Some cars in the game only have six gears. Dunno about the top speed,
though. The cars should easily top out at 360 or so at Monza. (trivia:
fastest top speed recorded by F1: 369kph, DC at Hockenheim '99)

Checked that full throttle actually is full throttle(red bars in the
F1-2002 controller setup)? Checked that you don't grind the plank.
That usually is audible OTOH.
