N1 - Can't Load Garage??

by Steve Fergus » Wed, 18 Mar 1998 04:00:00

Help,

I just reinstalled Nascar1 and can't go to the garage.  I have
tried several times, reinstalling to various directories,
including the default c:\nascar, and I have done a full install,
but I keep getting the message "can't load garage".  Arg.
Pretty difficult to be competitive with the default understeering-
pig setups.

Any ideas?
Stephen

[shaking cobwebs from brain]  To the best of my knowledge the major
reason for this was conflicting versions of a carset.  If you have any
downloaded carsets you may have a Non-American carset in a American
version of the program (or visa versa).  There used to be a "utiltity"
at http://www.racesimcentral.net/ to fix this (look in their archives).  Here is
the "hard" way to fix this problem:

To use carsets, which were created with the US Version of Nascar, with
the *** version you must do the following:

either make your *** version a US version by

changing all occurences of the ASCII sequence beng13 to kell_5
in the two files OBJS.DAT and your CARS94.DAT

or make the US carset a *** carset by

changing all occurences of the ASCII sequence kell_5 to beng13
  in that new <carset>.DAT file.

The other things to look for:

1)  make sure all files under the CARS directory are not set to Read-Only

2)  make sure that the *.dat files inside the CARS subdirectory match
the name of the directory they are in

3)  make sure you have a valid drivers.txt or drivers2.txt file for each
CARS subdirectory
