Car set "can't load garage"problem

by 135.26.4.200 ( » Sat, 02 Dec 1995 04:00:00

I got a carset that I believe was built on a Euro version of Nascar, and I get
the 'can't load garage' error message.  This is caused by the carset
originating from another version, I believe.  What is the hack to fix this?
I can edit the file if necessary, but I do not know the field(s) to change.
Can anyone help??

135.26.4.200 () sucked up a section of ***space with:

First of all, if you get a European car set you need the European
version of the sim.  For example, if you download the AUSCAR set from
the IWCCCARS Project Euro site, you'll need the Euro sim to run it.

However, if your version of the sim and the car set are the same
(either both US versions or Euro), then most likely you have installed
the file incorrectly, and the .DAT file does not match the directory
name the set is in.

Hope this helps!

Since you are a machine and not a person (your address is only a domain
name).  I will have to post the answer here (you left no e-mail
address).

This is how the Europeans fix American carsets.

To use carsets, which were created with the US Version of Nascar, with
the *** version you must do the following:

either make your *** version a US version by

changing all occurences of the ASCII sequence beng13 to kell_5
in the two files OBJS.DAT and your CARS94.DAT

or make the US carset a *** carset by

changing all occurences of the ASCII sequence kell_5 to beng13
  in that new <carset>.DAT file.

< I had the same thing happen, and I ended up having to unload the sim. and
re-install it completely.  Somehow, my GARAGE functions went into outer
space.  After re-installing NASCAR from the CD and then re-loading my car
sets, everything worked fine.  You have to be careful to offload the files
you want to keep before you do it, but re-installing the game only takes a
couple of minutes- much easier than trying to hack to solution.

In the .dat file, change all occurences of "beng13" to "kell_5".

None - it's a second-hand (possibly third-hand) tip.
