'Can't Load Garage' in NASCAR

G'Day,

I was wondering if anyone can explain this message, or help me in some way.  
When using an alternative set of cars to the standard cars that come with
Nascar, whenever I go to the garage, it starts to load, then displays this
error message 'Can't Load Garage' and I have to click OK to continue.  What's
with this ?  Is it because I am using a different car set ?  If so, is there a
way around it, or a fix for it ?  I am currently running the CDRom version of
Nascar, Version 1.1.

Also, what is the latest version of Nascar, and where can I get the patches to
that version ?

I get that message occassionally when I'm running with smartdrv. It works if I
just select retry. I don't know why; it just does. (I installed onto my harddisk,
for the same reason I use smartdrv, in case that makes  a difference.)

If you are using the version distributed by ***, you'll have to do
some hex editing.  Edit newcars.dat (or whatever it is called) and
change every occurance of "KELL_5" to "BENG13".  Another way to this is
edit NASCAR/OBJS/OBJS.DAT and change every occurance of "BENG13" to
"KELL_5".  I don't remember who was the original poster of these tips,
I'm just repeating them...
