Watkins Glen lap time in GPL

by Jaso » Sat, 06 Feb 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,
It seems it sort of depends where I go on the net for info for
respectable lap times at the Glen. Some places say 1:05-1:06 some say
more or less. But I thought I'd come to the only place that can say for
sure.
I pulled off a 1:05:07 last night with a Gravis Exterminator(don't
laugh, I'm not serious enough to get a wheel :), and I was wondering how
that compares to anyone else who pretty much only races at Watkins Glen?
I only race there cause I don't like to play it for too long, and I can
get the most laps done in the shortest time there. :)
It seems pretty fast, although I'm sure I could cut off another couple
tenths and hit under 1:05. How am I doing so far??

Thanks,
Jason

Hi Jason,

That's not bad at all. What car are you using?? Is the Exterminator a
joystick? (sorry) I use a CH Flightstick. You're not far from 1:04s, so
with a little more time and tinkering, you'll get there.

1:01 - oh yeah? Send the replay to one of the hot lap sites - it's only 3
seconds faster than the next best.
1:05:07 is a very good time.
Cheers,
Paul

You're doing very well! If you can run consistent 1m05's at the Glen you
should be able to race at the front comfortably at 95% of VROC races and
also beat the AI at any level.

Cheers!

Hi Graeme.

I'm new to GPL but I've read your posts on many occasions. I find them very
interesting and informative.

Hum...one question.  Last night, I did a 1:05 at Monza... from my pit stall
to the exit of the pits...Is this bad, very bad, or super duper very bad ?
Haha..

I run at the Glen just because it's my home track.  I spent most every
summer there since the late sixties.  Infact, Take a look at my tag
line.  My online racing carreer is helped by the RCA (The track flagmen,
grid, Fire&Rescue, Medical, Padock, ect.. at the Glen)

My lap times are 1:06.2xx (constant)  And I brake early in every
corner.  What I've seen i'd say that a 1:06.x is about average for the
fast guys and there's probably a 1:04 or 1:03 for a fast lap time from
some of those fast guys.

Just my $0.02 worth,
Mike Barlow

1:05 is excellent.  Hell id be happy if i could get under 1:08 consistantly.
My best is a 1:07 in the Eagle and that was with the car being almost totaly
out of controll!!!!!
