GPL 1.1 + 30 Minutes: best laps ever at Monza and Watkins Glen

If you have a force feedback wheel you are not reading this post. You
are too busy playing GPL 1.1, the most amazing force-feedback
implementation of all time. If you do not have FF you are not reading
this post either, since you are driving to the store to buy one. So I
guess I'm just talking to myself.

GPL 1.1 force feedback puts all other FF attempts to shame (except
Viper Racing, which is still good, though not near the level of GPL
1.1).

Within half an hour I posted my best laps at Monza and Watkins Glen. I
don't expect it will do the same for the fast hotlappers, but GPL slow
pokes like me the world over will be rejoicing.

It has to be felt to be believed. You can actually FEEL the weight of
the car moving around - in all four directions!

For the first time I can do those damn powerslides, because I can feel
exactly what the wheels are doing, how much they are gripping and how
much they are sliding.

I can reduce my braking distances because I can feel the weight of the
car bearing down on me, and anticipate it's effects.

I can accelerate out of turns faster because I can feel the wheels
slowly regaining their grip as well as feeling the weight shift again,
to the back of the car.

I can finally control the car on straightaways like a real car,
because I can feel it's weight swinging from side-to-side as it
settles. I can recover from problems (eg., bad cornering) because of
the same effect.

In short, this is the best free program upgrade I have ever
downloaded. I hope you get it early because I have a feeling the papy
site's going to be overloaded today! (It's a small file though, so it
should spread to other sites pretty fast.)

Thanks Papyrus (and Randy C) it was worth the wait!

Me too! This is absolutely unbelievable!
When I first heard that GPL1.1 would have FF, I decided to wait a couple of
weeks longer to buy a wheel, and then to go for a FF wheel.
Last week I boght one and the only game I had to try it, was MGPRS. I never
liked this game and I was really disappointed of the FF phenomenon. For a
couple of days I really thought I should have kept my money and should have
bought a non-FF wheel.
Well - this has changed today! It was a great buy! Lots of fun! New driving
experience! When I crashed my Cooper in Tarzanbocht, the impact felt nearly
as the impact I felt when I crashed my beloved Mini Cooper (R.I.P.) in to a
wall in 1986.
And I'm faster (although still f***ing slow overall)!
Wow!

Here's one, and I fully agree! I think, JUST having visual input of car
behaviour is not enough for me to be fast, and the added input makes it more
immersive AND gives better control.

OTOH, like I mentionend in another post, try to drive a couple of laps at
Nuerburgring. It was demanding before FF, but now it's a workout, now we
can call simracing a SPORT without feeling silly... ;^)

Hi,

Which FF wheel are you using with GPL 1.1?

Thanks!
