Hi,

I have a question concerning the two timing services installed
by gpl (1.2.02).

These services are located in %systemroot%\system32\drivers
for windows 2000.

But the registry keys look wrong.
IS:  REG_SZ "systemroot\system32\drivers\papycpu2.sys"
looks wrong, should be:
REG_EXPAND_SZ "%systemroot%\system32\drivers\papycpu2.sys"
or
REG_EXPAND_SZ "system32\drivers\papycpu2.sys"

I also do not find any of these services/devices in "non pnp devices" or
"services" where the stuff from "hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services"
should appear. (what kind of sense makes a service installation if they
are not run at startup, before logon?)
I do not receive any w2k events from service control manager. is something
missing?

This leads to the question if something else is wrong with them on w2k.

i am asking this, because i do have some stuttering on an athlon 1200,
which i did not have on an duron 800 (at least i do not remember ;-)),
which is strange. not really reproducable. sometimes it is gone, some-
times it is extremely annoying (about 0.1 FPS for a second or two)

after replacing all hardware (except lwff & athlon) the stuttering stays.
i also tried the numerous patches for via chipsets and so on.

i know that gpl runs without them, but maybe the stuttering belongs
to the "missing" timing services. (the n4 services corrupt(ed) gpl timing
somehow,  i read somewhere)

system specs (current / before):
asus a7v athlon 1200, 256 mb
voodoo 5 5500 PCI / Voodoo 3 3500 AGP
terratec dmx fire 1024 / sblive / sb16pci
Realtek 8139 NIC / Realtek 8029 NIC

thanks for any hint in advance,

just to split hairs; you can't have 0.1 FPS for two seconds.

hair is split ;-)

let's say 0 FPS for two seconds.
what i meant is: sudden freezes and then run again

that would be 0.5 FPS, then. :-D

Got you. Too much hairsplitting, are you confused? ;-D

sec        fps
0        36
1        0
2        0
3        36

how do you get 0.5 fps from this example ? ;-)
for all 4 seconds this would be an average of 18 FPS,
but for seconds 1 & 2 an average of 0 FPS.

I am _always_ confused! :-D

yeah, but your table is wrong.  here's what it should look like:

sec     frames     fps
0-1     35         35
1-3     1          0.333333333333 etc
3-4     36         36

see?  :)

you folks tried Max Payne yet?

a few people (including me) have had this.  look back in this group
for threads including the word 'stutter' for previous suggestions
for dealing with this problem.
