Just wanted to let people know it is possible to get Grand Prix
Legends working under Windows2000.
I say this because there are quite a few problems with getting a V2 to
run under W2K.
What I did is actually install 3 different V2 drivers, but here's how
it should work according to others:
- Install the hacked NT4/5 drivers from
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
- Reboot to get it working
- Install the 3Dfx v1.0 drivers (W2K compliant)
- You should have OpenGL/Glide now. Perhaps even D3D (have not
checked; D3D works, but don't know if it can accelerate with the V2)
In my case the order which I can still recall (I'm running W2K for
just 1 week now):
- V1.0 drivers from 3Dfx
- V1.02 drivers from 3Dfx (hacked drivers)
- NT5 hacked drivers from ncompatible.com
I don't have a panel in my Display Properties panel, but well.
Glide works, the Flipper.exe demo I downloaded a while ago works.
GPL works (v1.2). It just seems a bit slower, but I might be wrong
here. Perhaps it's multitasking a bit more at the background.
I'm using W2K (build 2195), Microsoft Sidewinder FF wheel (recognized
automatically by W2K; with 3 axes), PII-400, 128Mb etc. etc.
Now that does bring up a question; how can I set my wheel to 2 axes
for games that do NOT support separated throttle/brake axes?
The control panel Game Controllers section doesn't have options for
this. Perhaps I should check the sidewinder site.
Well, finally I don't have to reboot into W95 anymore! :)
Hope this is happy news for some GPL people.
