Doesn't work for me. I get some kind of error on installation. Someting
about a win***.dll file. Are you running a dual boot system? Maybe I need
the Win98 folder structure?
Thanks,

really? how exactly did you get GPL to work? it crashed so *** me the
1st time i tried it that i actually had to remove the power cord from the
computer (i was using the voodoo2 driver from
http://www.racesimcentral.net/, and the SB live value solution from the
same site). it worked perfectly all the way up to the point where i tried to
enter the car.

(so far, it's the only program that i've seen lock up w2k!)

in N3, the program seems to work fine but has issues with my LWFF.... the
sound with my SB live was also pretty messed up, but i hear drivers are
coming in early march.

for now- until the controller issues are cleared up- i'm double-booting with
w2k for apps and win98se for games...

if anyone can suggest how to get gpl running in w2k, i'd appreciate it,
though...

Well first I did a clean install of 2000 no duel boot. Then I just loaded up
GPL installed the patch and was done. For your reference I run it on a Dell
Optiplex G1 PII 450, 192MB RAM, ATI Rage II + Monster 3D Voodoo2, 3Com
3c905B-TX Ethernet card, and a SoundBlaster compatible sound card (generic
something).

That's it nothing special and I did not install any other patches that are
floating around.

It works for me in software mode, but if I select Glide it falls over and
hangs my whole system!
BTW, N3 works perfectly OK for me.

Winnet.dll is the file I think, I find the same too, I am running a
dual boot system, but that cannot be the issue as win2k relies only on
programs installed through it and not on the Win98 partition.

Funny when I first installed it I could get into GPL but no 3Dfx, then
I installed 3Dfx drivers for win2k and no go, I have since uninstalled
said drivers with no joy.

I get the GPL splash screen then get dumped to the desktop, I have a
feeling this may be a conflict with LAN/internet connections, as I
understand it, GPL is looking for connections/modems in that initial
splash screen.

Maybe I should try connecting to the net and then booting GPL, see if
that makes a difference.

FWIW N3 works fine with 3Dfx drivers for the V3000, but the LWFF
doesn't have any forces although it is all calibrated fine.

Cheers

See post below Mark, but it works for me in software, but crashes if I
select Glide.
Where does that leave us?

Both work fine for me, but I'm just running them from the c: drive on a dual
boot system.  (obviously c: is win98 and d: is win2k)  However until
Logitech releases a win2000 version of the profiler, I don't do this on a
regular basis.  In fact, GPL has no mirror blinking problems on my TNT2 in
Win2k.

GPL and N3 on W2K

by Jan Hoviu » Sun, 27 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Hello Mark (and others),

i had problems getting GPL running in w2k too. FF still doesn't work but that has something to do with the native w2k driver i.c.w. LWFF wheel (as i heard from an insider) which will be solved by logitech (probably).
The freezing of GPL had nothing to do with the 3d-part but with the flag 'disable_modem' in core.ini. By default this is set to '0' which means that before startup GPL tries to detect your modem. disabling this feature (setting this to '1') resolved my problem. What's better: GPL startup time increases a lot too!
I think the searching for a modem underneath w2k was causing the problem since I don't have a modem but an ISDN card. W98 didn't care but i also noticed that in w2k my com ports (modem connection is made trough com port) are reported very strange! Anyhow, this is just a suggestion which solved my problem. Let's hope it solves yours too!

Jan.
