SCGT HELP

by Andy Marso » Mon, 26 Jul 1999 04:00:00

hi all
Just bought SCGT, ***y good I say!!
Anyway, i've beeen trying to set the controller properly, but even if I set
the controller sensitivity right down, I can still get around the hairpins
using about 10 degrees of steering lock. If i turn any more, the car
understeers straight off. If I increase the deadzone, it just doesn't steer
until I turn about 30 degrees. This makes it rather weird and unrealistic.
Any help?  I wish you could adjust the steering lock in the garage like Papy
sims, that would cure it.....

Cheers

No offense, but try slowing down for the turns.  If you are
understeering, then you are going to fast for your given setup.  For
reference, I have the deadzone slider all the way to the left.  The
sensitivity is set at about 1/3 from the left, and the speed
sensitivity is also set at about 1/3 from the left.

10 degrees of wheel angle for the hairpins sounds a little off to me.
I can only assume the controller is calibrated correctly in windows??

Hope yo figure it out.  SCGT is awesome.

Try putting deadzone to full left and sensitivity to the full right (that's
where I have it and it's ok for me).

SCGT HELP

by Andy Marso » Tue, 27 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I've tried everything but I can get the lock I need to get around hairpins
by moving the wheel about 15 degrees. This makes the game very fiddly. If I
turn the wheel all the way, the car turns around 180 degrees in about half
the width of the track! I've tried increasing the deadzone so I have to turn
more, but that means I have to turn a lot to make small direction changes on
the striaght. I've got speed sensitivity to zero. I have an F1 SIM wheel and
its fine in other games. Seems very strange. In GPL you can adjust the
steering setup brilliantly, in SCGT its a bit wierd. You should be able to
alter the cars steering ratio or lock, its set very high in the game.

I can take the very last corner of Road Atlanta at full thottle by cutting
the corner.  There is a little strip of green grass and the wheels on the
grass and the pavement grip enough to not slow down at all.  However, later
in the race when the tires wear down, I have to start slowing down for it.

Well its actually faster to keep two tires on the track and two on the
curb.  Also I find even with slick grass its tends to really want to over
rotate the car in the turn.

Well it is catchable, Ihave had some really lurid slides trying to get
inside guys thru there.  You end up just hoping the guy is still ahead of
you instead of beside you when you end up on the curbs at start finish.

SCGT HELP

by Jason Mond » Sat, 31 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi Andy,

I have a T2 and set the deadzone to 0 (full left).  To adjust the sensitivity
set it to full right then go into practice mode at a track and move to the
swing-cam view (V or C).  Then press INS,HOME,PGUP,DELETE, END,PGDN to move the
camera until you get a good view of the front tires -- zoom in close.  Now
slowly turn the wheel to the left.  If the tires on the car stop turning by the
time you hit full lock on the wheel, turn your sensitivity down 1 notch and try
again.  Turn the wheel to the right to check as well.

My controller is perfect at 3 notches from the right.

I figure if the tires on the car match your controller linearly then you have
total control of when you turn too much.

Furthermore, be sure not to set the "adjust with speed" bar too high.  You will
not have enough steering lock at high speed to catch those *** slides if you
set it .... say above 75%.  Mine is, I think, 60% and I've caught some major
slides coming into the last corner at Road Altanta going 150mph :-D   Just try
to set it as low as possible without making the car weave on high-speed
straights.

Jason.
