Peter, just spent the past weekend null modeming.  We ran various
multi player games the only problems we experienced were not having the
same versions of the games,  after patching to the same versions
everything ran smooth.  Just purchased my null modem cable a couple of
weeks ago a 6' cord with 9 & 25 pin connectors on each end cost three
dollars.  I have seen Lengths of 25' on the null modem advertised in
the Computer Shopper for a small amount of money.  I would think you
could make up the rest of the distance using a plain serial cable.  Not
sure of signal loss due to length of run or pin assignments.
