N2 Sound Problems

I get sound while playing N2 in DOS but not in Windows.  I have an NEC
9617, with Pentium 133, 16m RAM, Packard Bell VGA.  Solution is I had to
load the SND.CFG file from N1 to N2.  This solution works fine while
playing the game, but if I test the sound in Setup, the machine locks
up.  The game also locks up frequently while playing, at least once
every two hours.  Any thoughts?
