So I take it Psygnosis F1 DOESN'T support the 3dfx?

If not, what the hell is wrong with these people?! Don't they like
money? The first company that puts out an even half-decent sim with 3d
card support is going to make about 100,000 "free" sales, no
advertising needed, from every 3d card owner on the planet (i.e.,
since there are no 3dfx racers out yet, we are starved for one). Even
six months ago you maybe could have gotten away with an unaccelerated
game, to release one today is a sign of total brain death. Might as
well pull the plug.

or a 3dfx version ;)

I'm one very sad 3dfx owner - the framerate is fine but there is NO
sense of speed at all and the framerate stutters all the time :(
IMO GP2 is 10 times better looking and feels much much faster
even running at <20fps :(

Back to GP2 for me.

Re: frame rate problems...

And your hardware...

I'm amazed that this game gave you frame rate problems, unless it is
not using your 3D card? What about the 3dfx? Does this game support
the 3dfx?

Apart from Monaco, circuits with trees, i.e. Spa, Montreal,
Hockenheim, seem to have the worst frame rates. For example, as you
enter the Hockenheim stadium section it appears that you've just had a
turbo boost. The solution here is to set the resolution to medium
which, whilst it isn't quite as pretty as high resolution, doesn't
affect gameplay at all and is still far superior to the graphics on
the PS game. My favourite circuit so far is Magny Cours, which has
a stonking frame rate and presents a neat challenge too. Funny because
France is never a race I really look forward to  on TV. Despite
comments on this newsgroup about the lack of a***pit, this doesn't
matter when you actually play the game. I mean what's so great about
that inanimate steering wheel in GP2 any way. When you all get this
game, I seriously doubt you will be giving Mr Crammond's brainchild
much playtime any more. Whilst F1 is not an out and out sim, even the
arcade mode is more true to life than GP2 ever felt. And as for the
frame rate issue, well Mr Crammond has left the building (to write a
Renditon Redline API one would hope)

OK, so I'll turn my RANT mode off then. I will probably check out this
game, becaue I have a 3dfx and I do like arcade racers if well done
(like NFS 1 and Moto Racer).

It does and its crap. Frame-rate is high but it st.st.st.stutters about
even driving in a straight line with no other cars in view. AI Sucks, Cars look
like they are made of ***, track texture flows backwards at high speeds,
control options are crap, menus are crap, sound is crap.

How did this get released ? Is the renditopn version any better ?

On top of all the other stuff...

You guys with it already, does it support networking?

I heard as a rumor it was dropped.

thanks.

Native support for both 3dFX and Rendition is supported out of the box, and
a Direct3D version is also included for the more cerebrally challenged
among us who somehow came to the conclusion that the 3dFX wasn't the best
3D card... :)

Only kidding guys...?!

The Rendition version and Direct3D versions are reportedly not as spiffing
as the 3dFX version which runs without a hitch on a P-150 even (2x75). On
my system (P-225mmx) even "Ninja" mode runs supersmooth and looks
incredible.

Just a shame about the rest of the game..... :(

Waahey! I'm standing still!!

You heard right, it was dropped. It _may_ be released later as a patch, but
don't hold your breath. This is far from decided. I've now tried all three
versions of F1 (3dFX, Rendition and D3D) and found them all to be playable.
It's no GP2 or ICR2, but if all you're looking for is a fun arcade racer
then it meets that demand - looks totally great too.

So, no***pit and no networking...but it has the performance! :)

Well then why wouldn't I just stick with ICR2 Rendition version. We know that
looks good and runs great. Plus we can link 2 players together.

F1 is a shell of what they said it was going to be. How can one get e***d
about this game?

I'll wait for the multiyplayer patch. Psygnosis really dropped the ball with
this game. Boo Hoo.

cerebrally challenged?  You mean all of those of us who still like
IndyCar II and NASCAR 2 and decided to get a Rendition for those
games?

Fine if you have a Rendition card. I have a 3dfx, and Papyrus/Sierra
apparently don't want my business.

No, it means "...who somehow came to the conclusion that the 3dFX wasn't
the best 3D card". Nothing to do with ICR2 and N2, you can play those
without a 3D card at rapid frame-rates. Granted ICR2 looks rather fetching
in its new clothes, but buying a Rendition card for N2 must be somewhat of
a disappointment.

Note the ":)" - it was intended tongue-in-cheek.
