3Dfx INTERACTIVE ANNOUNCES HOT RACING GAMES FROM PSYGNOSIS
ENABLED BY VOODOO GRAPHICS
3Dfx technology enables lightening speed and visually realistic
graphics for the PC gamer
ECTS, London, September 10, 1996 -- 3Dfx Interactive today announced
that Psygnosis will
deploy two of its hot PC racing titles, WipeOut XL? (Wipeout 2097? for
the UK release) and
Formula 1, to run on 3Dfx Interactive's Voodoo Graphics? 3D accelerator.
PC gamers will revel in
the lightening speed eye-popping graphics that only Voodoo Graphics
arcade technology enables on
your home system. The titles will be available for Windows 95 this
winter.
"Psygnosis is renowned for its intense game titles, particularly for the
attention to detail and accurate
modelling of real-life environments. Voodoo Graphics really does right
by Wipeout XL and Formula
1, bringing these games to life by enabling full use of every 3D feature
without sacrificing speed," said
Andy Keane, vice president of marketing for 3Dfx Interactive.
Based on requests from game fans worldwide, Psygnosis created WipeOut
XL, the sequel to the
classic WipeOut. WipeOut XL is poised to take anti-gravity racing
completely over the edge. The
game allows for twelve ships on the track concurrently, running at full
speed with all 3D features
engaged. The aircrafts' new strategic weapons, including plasman bolts,
e-paks and thunder bombs,
give the player the ability to dish out permanent damage!
On Formula 1, every driver, track and option have been optimized with
Voodoo Graphics to make it
the most complete racing experience outside of a racetrack. All drivers
in the game follow intelligent,
realistic race strategies and are pushed to constantly monitor the
situation around their cars. Since the
game developers worked with the Jordan team, a leading Formula One
racing team, the game is
remarkably life-like. Tracks have been precisely modelled from the
official surveyors track maps with
all surrounding scenery and the cars have been designed from careful
study of photographs and
hundreds of hours of live video footage.
"Voodoo Graphics' stunning performance makes Formula 1 and the new
WipeOut look and feel so
realistic," said Dominic Mallinson, technical director of Psygnosis Ltd.
"Handling is responsive,
intuitive and fun for the gamer because the graphics produced with this
technology allows them to be
completely immersed in the experience."
Psygnosis joins the growing list of game developers who have created
games whose performance will
be maximized when run on Voodoo Graphics. Numerous developers have added
3Dfx's technology
to their development platforms including Acuris, Bacchus, Core Design,
Eidos Interactive, 47-TEK,
Gremlin Interactive, Leaping Lizard Software, Phantom Card, SingleTrac
and Silent Software.
Additionally, 3D Realms, ASC/Virtual Studios, Terminal Reality,
Interactive Light, Ocean,
Playmates/Digital Dialect, Spectrum Holobyte, UBI Soft Entertainment,
Viacom New Media/Radical
Entertainment, and *** have publicly displayed titles accelerated by
Voodoo Graphics. To date,
over 125 developers have joined Total Immersion, the 3Dfx Interactive

Voodoo Graphics Technology
Voodoo Graphics delivers interactive 3D applications with
photo-realistic quality at real-time frame
rates with performance exceeding one million texture-mapped triangles
per second. It incorporates
critical 3D features, such as triangle setup, tri-linear filtering,
Z-buffering, alpha-blending,
level-of-detail MIP mapping and anti-aliasing, which are essential for
visually realistic texture-mapped
entertainment and authoring applications. Moreover, Voodoo Graphics
simultaneously delivers these
features with the triangle and fill-rate performance necessary to
achieve 30-plus frames per second. In
addition to its core 3D capabilities, Voodoo Graphics also supports
unique special effects including
texture compositing and morphing, per-pixel atmospheric effects and
texture animation. These features
dramatically enhance photorealism and impact to aid developers in
creating a truly radical ***
experience.
