I don't want to flame, but I think it's a bit harsh to tar all PlayStation games with the same brush.

Admittedly, a lot of early PlayStation 'racers' have followed the arcade lead, but as time goes on, the older owners are
demanding something a bit more serious. Whilst we, as the developers, would never claim to be a rival to Geoff Crammond's
level of simulation, we are trying to cater for the more serious audience with a reasonably accurate simulation on the
PlayStation format.

I'm not going to go into details - John Wallace has produced an article about the game's development in his excellent 'Sim
Racing News':

Because it's a PSX game it's not realistic? Why couldn't or shouldn't
this game be realistic? Because the PSX is a games console? Granted,
it will not be as realistic as GP2 which was (is?) in the works for
two years.

But it will not be a simple arcade racer. It will have two separate
modes (arcade and expert). In Expert mode you will have to deal with
retirements, pit stops/strategies and car realism as opposed to Arcade
mode. The license for this game was too expensive to make it just
another arcade racer Psygnosis told EDGE in one of their interviews.

It won't be delayed for almost a year, will have up to date teams (96)
and runs at 30fps on a relatively cheap machine compared to the P166
you're gonna need to get 30fps on a PC. They both have their pro's and
cons but I don't have to worry about that because I'll get both games
and have a lot of F1 fun this year :)

Over three years - Crammond says he started GP2 3 weeks after the F1GP
modem update, which would be April 1993.

This has to be by far the most uninformed comment I've read here in
quite awhile.  This may surprise you, but there is already a wheel &
pedal combo for the Playstation.  Secondly, go to the web site and do
some reading...then pick up a copy of Next Generation which discusses
this game -- also then do some reading.  They are using real car
telemetry from Formula 1 cars and are implementing all the physics
possible.  They have DAT-recorded the sound of the cars from a
recorder strapped to a real F1 driver's body.  They have every track
modelled, each track taking up about 90,000 polygons, complete with
every realistic detail.  Obviously we're going to have to judge the
game once it comes out, but for you to casually dismiss it as
unrealistic simply on the basis of the Platform its coming out on is
sheer ignorance.  I own a Playstation, a Pentium 133, and am a league
racer in IndyCar II, and spend a fair amount of time on Nascar as
well.  And comparing the capabilities of the two machines, I'd have to
say that when it comes to sheer polygon crunching, I'll take a
Playstation every time (at least until we start getting 3D boards).
In the meantime, why don't you try to get some facts before spewing
drivel like this?

Correction; it *is* realistic. Even better, for a "console" game it's damn good.
I had the chance to play the beta (3 lap) version at the Marlboro event during
the Monaco Grand Prix. If it will be released before GP2 I *will* buy a
Playstation.

btw, see also http://www.worldaccess.nl/~mderooy. Consult "history". Personal
review will be available there later on.
