GPL D3D patch 16 bit?

by teehol » Sun, 17 Jun 2001 16:57:02

Hello,

 Very new to Nvidia/Geforce cards (just installed it today).

 I have GPL running with the latest D3D patch. Must my desktop be set
to 16-bit color, or is GPL okay with 32-bit color on the W98 desktop?
 (guessing 16-bit only, or I get a *** crash loading GPL).

 Thx, Matt

If that's the case Eric, then my GPL should crash like Matt's.  See, I'm
running Win98 with 32-bit color, AND the new D3D patch and have ZERO
problems running the game!  I've got an NVIDIA TNT ULTRA2 graphics card,
however, so that may be the difference.

but (my copy at least) works fine with a 32bit desktop using the D3D patch.

If (and only if) you run GPL in a window, you must set your desktop to
16 bit colors. This is typically done for servers where you might want
to monitor the connections etc. in another application.

[ Rasterizer ]
fullScreen = 1                              ; run Full Screen?
In the core.ini file in your GPL folder. Set to 0 to run in a window.

Just go to your GL settings and tell it to always use 16 bit regardless of
your desktop settings.

 Well I did get it to work (it's nice!) in 32-bit color, either
600x800 or 1028x764. I found a core.ini posted here, tried it, and
everything is fine. I have a C/L GTS-64mb.

 The refresh looks just a bit flickery (desktop is set to 100Hz), but
the rest is okay.

 Anyone have a fine-tuned core.ini file that might up the refresh a
bit, or am I seeing things?? <g>. Please post your core.ini file if
you do.

 This is the core.ini file I'm using now:

-----------------------
[ Int Profile Values ]
value3 = Direct3D7:D3DDevice:0
value4 = Direct3D7:TossHighestMip:0
value5 = Direct3D7:TrilinearFiltering:0
value6 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResWidth:0
value7 = Direct3D7:DoubleMirrorResHeight:0
value8 = Direct3D7:DirectMirrorRendering:0
value9 = Direct3D7:DisableZBuffer:0

[ Direct3D7 ]
D3DDevice = 1
TossHighestMip = 0
TrilinearFiltering = 1
DoubleMirrorResWidth = 1
DoubleMirrorResHeight = 1
DirectMirrorRendering = 1
DisableZBuffer = 0
------------------------

Thanks,

Matt
