ICR2 Race Time vs. Avg Speed bug?

by Scott Gol » Mon, 08 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I did a couple of tests in ICR2 Windows Version:

Watkins Glen N2 Conv:
Dist: 2.428 mi
Race Length: 3 Laps
1 opponent
Race Finish: 1st
Time (reported and clocked by hand on stop watch): 3m:03.3s
Avg Speed (reported): 148.311 mph
Calculated Avg Speed: 143.057 mph

Michigan:
Dist: 2.000 mi
Race Length: 3 Laps
1 opponent
Race Finish: 1st
Time (reported and clocked by hand with stop watch): 1m:45.6s
Avg Speed (reported): 206.438 mph
Calculated Avg Speed: 204.545 mph

So, I am wondering to myself what is the difference, and I cannot figure
out why.  Anyone got any clue?  Is this a windows only problem?  I dont
think it had anything to dow tih my pace lap or cool down lap cause the
calculated is less than the speed reported by the game.  I think this is
an issue because many offline series dont specify which nuber to send
in, the time or the speed.  And especially if you send in the speed, I
would be inclined to say your sending in "incorrect" information.

Could it be that you're calculating the speed based upon the published track
length, but depending upon your line through the corners, you may in fact have
traveled further?  The program is probably reporting your actual speed,
something that is never done in real life.  I could be completely wrong,
though.

I don't have the Windoze version, but in the DOS ICR and N1, the lengths of the
tracks were inaccurate, which gave incorrect speeds.

if memory serves.. ICR2 would report your last lap speed as your avg. lap
speed.

Are you stating that the 2.000 posted michigan length (and the 2.000
thats in the txt file) is not the same number the game uses to calculate
speed?

I suppose the game could go by actual distance traveled, but that would
definitely defeat the purpose since all drivers technically go different
distances, and isn't 2.000 the mean distance around the track anyways?
