Hiya Ed,
I for one would like to thank you for all the time you spend in this
NG's trying to help out. I have a hard enough time just keeping up with
this group since the service went open-beta..:-] Keep up the good work!
later,
Jim G.

Ed:
I'd like to second that.
You could have just looked here for information - but NO!   You actually
open yourself up to abuse from the flamers, and keep coming back.  I
for one am impressed by your honest answers where we would have expected
either silence or some sales-driven dribble.   Naturally, your sanity
is now questioned :-) but we appreciate it!
There must be 50-100 of us who quietly read your input to every 1 obnoxious
responder.   Consider yourself the receipient of a virtual pat on the
back.      "...and there was much rejoicing".... -Monty Python

Thanks, Mike,

Actually what keeps me coming back after getting flamed is that I get a
kick out of watch you all tee-off on them for me! :-) (only kidding...
sort of).

On this side of the firewall, there a lot of us that are watching what
you all have to say.  I'm the only one stupid enough to "come out of the
closet", as it were, and take the arrows.  What I'm trying to say is
PLEASE keep reading & posting.  The stuff we see up here is going to do
a world of good in turning the final product into what you all want it
to be.

In the mean time... fire away! (I can duck)

In that case, Hi to all you on the "other side"!

I had another frustrating experience tonight.   I have been staying away due
to the expense and the "learning curve".  But I just couldn't stand it... I
had to get back on...

Why don't the races start after you get the minimum amount?   First you wait
for 8 players, then you wait for what????    I was waiting in one race that
had 13 people "signed up for it" and it did not start.  After waiting for far
too long, the only race that seemed to be moving was Talladega (why am I not
surprised?)
Naturally, I spent a while practicing, qualifying, and then getting smashed in
the first turn..... I guess I should have seen that coming too.

45 minutes of LD only to wait for races that wouldn't start, and then this???
Thanks to whoever admitted to the wreck - but that's small consolation for an
expensive evening.   I could have had that much racing just driving against AI
with my eyes closed!

If there's anything I (in fact, WE) can do to expedite the affordability of
this service, let us know.   [read: hurry]

Frustrated;
Mike   -now 2 laps down, with a car that does 170mph tops after being hit...
I know, this is supposed to be fun,   :-(    It could be.   If I could only
finish a race... I guess I'll start out in the pits next time

<end -vent- mode>

Waiting after an event on the scheduler reaches critical mass is caused
by the number of race servers that we have.  Each race requires a race
server resource.  If there's, say 8, races already running, and a 9th
reaches critical mass on the scheduler, it has to wait for one of the
race servers to free up.

Thanks, Ed.   That makes sense, but when I quit the race I was trying to run, and
became the 6th person on a Talladega race (waiting for 6 to start), it started right
away....  In other words, the Michigan race did not start even with 13 players
(twice the minimum) but a Talladega race started right away when it got the 6 it was
looking for....  was that just a coincidence?

Hmmmm    Anyway, I thought it was strange and worth looking into.
This may have already been fixed, as I noticed the HAWAII.ZIP and MULTI.ZIP files
were auto-downloaded to my computer on Sunday.

Do you know what these fixed?  Is there anything special we should know about in
these updates?

Mike  -must be a phone rebate... yeah, that's the ticket!

No, it's not a coincidence.  What happened is that the Tally race was nominated before the
Michigan race, most likely.  BTW, we have changed the critical mass for Tally races to be higher
than other races.

Once of the files in the zip is UPDATE.TXT.  It explains all of the changes.
