Ed,
What type of system is Papyrus envisioning for Hawaii? I'm sure everyone
would be willing to "pay to play" but these phone bills are ***. Will
the actual system allow connection through a local phone #?

At E3 last month, we announced the future for Hawaii... NASCAR has
sanctioned us as their 13th & newest division -- the NASCAR Racing
League. "Hawaii" is the prototype for NRL.
NRL will use NASCAR Racing 2 which is due out this Christmas. It will
feature the user pickup races & user created series races that Hawaii
now offers. It will also feature fully sanctioned NRL series races.
Without getting into all of the details, NRL series will be as close
to the other 12 NASCAR divisions as possible Users will actually join
NASCAR & become licensed drivers. NRL series will be run like Winston
Cup
We ave not announced specifics about NRL yet... like pricing, release
date, "how to connect", etc. However, you can feel pretty confident
that we will have local access number for everyone.
The complete press release for NRL & NASCAR Racing 2 can be found at
NASCAR.COM & SIERRA.COM.

Yeah, Ed, but will I be okay in Utah? :-)

BTW, any chance that you can add a chalkboard or something on the
bottom of the screen during replays to show lap speed and position?
Certainly would help when replaying multi races from Hawaii.

A date? I think it's fair to say that NRL will probably not ship in
the box with NASCAR 2 this November (don't worry, it will be a free
upgrade for people who buy NASCAR 2). I don't mean to be evasive, but
I don't even know the date, & I'm the Producer for the project! That
date is contingent on signing up with our network provider. Best
guess I can give you for NRL is "sometime in 1997". Sorry. :-(

Is anybody OK in Utah? Just Kidding. Wish I could live at Snowbird or

Currently, INN utilizes a combination of SprintNet & a proprietary
AT&T network. Neither of which is low latency (at least low enough
latency for NRL). INN has announced that they are moving to an "open"
internet architecture & showed their new interface at E3 last month.
That doesn't help latency... it just makes it worse.
With all of that said, given Sierra's relationship with INN, they are
one of the providers we are talking to.

So we'll be paying LD charges until "sometime in 1997"? Not good. Oh
well...

Thanks for the info. I was unsure if INN had been sold, but it seemed
a good guess if it hadn't. :) Any chance that you will be adding the
"chalkboard" in replays? It'd be a great help when tormenting a friend
over a Hawaii race! <G> Or crying over running out of gas on the next
to last lap at Atlanta when you're 5 seconds ahead of the 2nd place
car, going for your first win! ARGGGHHHHH!
